COMPANY SUMMARY

WILDCOAST/COSTASALVAJE is an international conservation team that conserves coastal and marine ecosystems and wildlife with projects in California, Mexico and Cuba. This position would work out of our office across from the beach in Imperial Beach, California and would require travel to Mexico and Cuba.

JOB TITLE:    Development Director

Reports to:        Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY

Develops and coordinates the organizations fundraising functions and special events to generate funds, attendance and volunteers for the organization.  Works to identify, recruit and manage high level donors. Performs a variety of skilled fundraising and event production duties directly related to development activities.  Identifies types of special events appropriate to the organization’s image and purpose used to raise funds.

REQUISITE SKILLS / EDUCATION

Education:  Minimum bachelor’s degree.

Skills:  Ability to work with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to define development priorities. Have the ability to build, develop, and manage donor relations. Must be a go-getter with the capacity to work independently and must be an enthusiastic and passionate ocean conservationist. Fluency in Spanish a plus. Must: 1) have excellent writing and personal communication skills; 2) be fluent in social media; 3) be an experienced proposal writer; 4) be experienced in donor management software such as Charity Engine; and 5) have experience in corporate fundraising.

Experience:  A minimum of five years of experience in development, marketing, and/or public relations with demonstrated success in fundraising.  Experience in event planning and effective prospect identification, cultivation, and relationship building for a non-profit organization.  

JOB DUTIES

  • Manage and improve all fundraising activities and areas.
  • Establish elite donor program, including special events and donor site visits.
  • Manage corporate fundraising efforts.
  • Write proposals for corporate and government grants as needed.
  • Increase Special Events fundraising.
  • Build on existing Individual donors and acknowledging gifts and donations.
  • Developing effective working relationships with donors, volunteers, government and foundation representatives and corporate businesses to nurture their connection to the organization.
  • Coordinates with staff and Board, to host organizational fundraising events.
  • Oversees promotion and marketing of events, coordinates with event planner as needed.
  • Conducts an appraisal after the event to determine its success, improvements needed the next time the event occurs.
  • Provide a weekly and monthly written summary of activities report.
  • Be able to organize international and domestic donor trips.
  • Travel to Mexico and Cuba expected.
