Environmental Biologist / Scientist

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure has an opportunity for an Entry to Mid-Level Environmental Biologist or Scientist to fill a full-time position for our Denver, CO Environmental team.

Key Responsibilities

The position is approximately 50% field work and 50% office work on a variety of projects, including commercial, industrial, state and federal sites

  • Biology field activities may include plant and wildlife identification, threatened and endangered species surveys, wetland surveys, native plant surveys etc. Will utilize GPS, compass, quad maps and / or aerial photographs
  • Office work involve researching literature and regulatory requirements, preparing reports, maps and charts and performing routine calculations
  • Interprets data. With experience, may write complete reports
  • Prepares field reports, internal correspondence, sections of formal reports
  • Follows company safety standards and site safety standards in accordance with Amec Foster Wheeler policy
  • Will travel to project sites throughout Colorado and the western US. Between 25% and 50% overnight travel
  • Environmental field activities may include soil and groundwater sampling, site investigations and remediation activities

Skills / Qualifications

Required

  • BS or MS in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related scientific discipline or technical field
  • 2 to 5 years of related experience
  • Must be a self starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Western US fauna and / or flora knowledge and experience is required
  • Skilled at basic or standard field procedures and techniques
  • Strong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS Office
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours as required and may include weekend work
  • Willingness to travel to project sites in Colorado and surrounding states and between 25% and 50% overnight travel
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy

Preferred

  • Bureau of Land Management and / or US Forest Service project experience
  • Current USFWS permits or ability to be permitted for T&E species surveys
  • NEPA knowledge and experience
  • Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act threatened and endangered species survey experience
  • Section 404 of the Clean Water Act delineating / permitting experience
  • OSHA and or MSHA certificates
  • GIS and or AutoCAD experience

Physical Demands
Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions
Ability to hike, lift equipment and willingness to work extended hours (10+ hour days), as needed
