Straughan is currently seeking an Environmental Scientist in Greenbelt, MD.

Description:

Support a range of activities in support of water quality management, oil operation and storage tank management, and hazardous waste management at a federal site in Maryland. Participate as part of a team providing a full range of environmental compliance support activities at the site.

Duties:

  • Conduct water quality sampling, inspections and reviews to ensure compliance with permit conditions and state/federal regulations.
  • Conduct AST inspections in support of the oil program and ensure compliance with permit conditions and state/federal regulations.
  • Understand the principles governing hazardous waste storage and management; including RCRA.
  • Compile data, prepare reports, and participate in technical reviews.
  • Provide technical support to team members for other aspects of the site environmental program.
  • Be flexible and work across a wide range of media.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in environmental programs. A graduate level education in a relevant discipline may substitute for experience.
  • Experience providing on-site support for environmental programs at federal installations is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, written and communication skills.
  • Professional work attitude and ability to participate on a team supporting a wide range of environmental compliance activities.

Other Requirements:
Ability to gain access to work on a Federal government facility.
Current OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification is a plus.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school in relevant scientific discipline
