The Field Coordinator performs a variety of administrative duties, planning, logistics coordination and field support for the Boulder County Youth Corps. The full-time exempt
6-month term employee works a varying schedule that may include some evenings and weekends. The position starts February 27, 2017 and ends August 25, 2017. Time off is strongly discouraged. This is a supervisory level position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains open communication with Program Manager and assists Program Manager with planning, organization, oversight and evaluation.
- Coordinates with Project Sponsors to determine scope of projects, tools/materials needed, safety concerns, transportation and schedules in order to provide well-planned work projects and meet program deadlines.
- Inventories, prepares and distributes tools, materials, safety supplies, communication devices, vehicles and work schedules; responsible for purchasing, repairing and maintaining tools, materials, safety supplies and communication devices; responsible for checking vehicles to make sure damage has been reported; coordinates loaning vehicles to others who request them during off hours; prepares/checks various usage reports.
- Assists Program Manager in selection of Leaders and Corpsmembers.
- Assists Program Manager with Leader and Corpsmember training on job skills, tool use/maintenance, communication, safety, transportation, team management, group dynamics, motivation and other topics.
- Monitors work projects through frequent team field visits; provides ongoing training and technical/supervisory support before/after the Corpsmember work day and in the field during the work day; oversees Roving Team Leader(s) to best utilize staff resources; ensures teams complete paperwork, including tracking project hours and statistics.
- Maintains open communication with Project Sponsors to anticipate needs, resolve conflicts, monitor work progress, provide technical support and ensure the smooth running/successful completion of work projects; immediately informs Program Manager of any concerns.
- Assists Program Manager with end-of-season celebration and collection of paperwork; collects, inventories, sharpens/repairs/cleans and stores tools, materials and equipment, including cleaning/maintenance of storage areas; returns leased vehicles in good condition, provides for storage/maintenance of fleet vehicles and coordinates transporting surplus vehicles to auction; prepares a summary of project hours and accomplishments; assists with program and staff evaluations.
- Completes spreadsheets, presentations, word processing/mail merge documents, data entry, photo organization and other computer-related work as needed.
- Assists Program Manager in other duties as assigned.
Experience - Minimum one year combined experience which includes supervisory/teaching experience with a youth-focused service, job training or other program and/or project management/technical work experience in trail building, construction, landscaping or conservation related work. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
Education - Bachelor’s degree in resource management, environmental science, landscape architecture, building trades, outdoor education, education, public administration or related field.
Must possess valid Colorado driver’s license, a good driving record, and current automotive insurance. Job offer contingent on passing motor vehicle background check and thorough background investigation. Must be at least 21 years of age by February 27, 2017.
Frequently lifts up to 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 feet; occasionally lifts up to 30 lbs. from floor to knuckle; frequently lifts up to 20 lbs. from shoulder to overhead; occasionally pushes and pulls items weighing up to 100 lbs.; occasionally performs bi-lateral lift of 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 ft.; frequently lifts up to 35 lbs. from waist level and lowers to floor. Frequently bends at waist, squats, kneels, shovels, and rakes. Occasionally climbs ladder; must be able to stand and balance on ladder; occasionally walks over uneven terrain.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent oral and written communication skills a must.
- Ability to plan, organize and schedule multiple work projects under deadline.
- Ability to demonstrate and perform physically demanding manual labor, such as trail construction or landscaping.
- Proficiency supervising adult staff in a program with youth participants, with the ability to manage conflict calmly.
- Knowledge of safety precautions and hazards common to outdoor work projects.
- Ability to operate trucks and vans, including towing a trailer; ability to change a flat tire and troubleshoot minor vehicle problems in the field.
- Ability to repair/maintain tools and equipment.
- Experience training/mentoring and teamwork oriented.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse employees, Project Sponsors and the public.
- Strong record keeping skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software.
