This position will be collaborating with others to collect and enter data for statewide vegetation monitoring projects conducted by the Minnesota Biological Survey. Field work will include driving and hiking to often remote sites, orienteering to sites using GPS units, compasses and air photos, establishing plots according to program protocols, and collecting quantitative data on plant species and other aspects of ecosystems such as soils and coarse woody debris. Sites will be documented with photographs according to established protocols. The employee will enter data into established databases and help prepare data for analyses. Other tasks include documenting locations using GIS, contacting landowners and site managers for permission to collect data, and assisting with data entry for other projects.
