Native Plant Nursery Technician

San Bruno Mountain Watch

Brisbane ,  California

Background

San Bruno Mountain is a remarkable biodiversity hotspot surrounded by the cities of San Francisco, Daly City, Brisbane, Colma, and South San Francisco. Despite its urban setting, the mountain is home to three federally listed endangered butterflies and over a dozen rare or endangered plants.

San Bruno Mountain Watch is a grassroots environmental nonprofit that has been preserving and protecting San Bruno Mountain for over 45 years. Our organization leads community-based stewardship programs that protect and care for the mountain's diverse habitats, provides environmental education opportunities for students of all ages, and actively leads conservation campaigns to protect open space on and around the mountain.

Our Mission Blue Nursery grows plants entirely from seeds collected on San Bruno Mountain and provides these for ecosystem restoration projects on the mountain. Through public plant sales and private contracts, we also supply plants for landscaping projects in local cities including school gardens, backyards, and sustainable streetscapes.

Our robust nursery volunteer program occurs every Wednesday and is an integral part of our nursery. Dedicated community members are involved with all aspects of the nursery operations including propagation, care of the demonstration garden, seed cleaning, seed amplification, data collection, and maintenance of the nursery grounds, structures, and equipment.
