The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking candidates to fill the Area Forest Supervisor postion in Baudette, MN. The deadline for applications is Feb. 17, 2017.
The Area Forest Supervisor directs a staff of 12 in management of 390,000 acres of state land and partners in management of an additional 39,000 acres of federal lands. The staff also provide management advice and assistance to private landowners in the local area. In addition to forest management, the Baudette Area staff are part of a progressive wildland fire suppression team that provides protection for over one million acres. With average timber sale receipts of $2.4 million, the Baudette Area actively manages about 4,500 acres annually through timber harvesting. Approximately 700 acres are aerial seeded and/or planted per year and the Baudette Area also maintains about 194 miles of forest roads.
Baudette is a community of 1,106 (2010 census) and claims the title of "Walleye Capital of the World", based on its location on the Rainy River, just south of the popular year-round fishery in Lake of the Woods. In addition to the recreational opportunities on the lake, Baudette is also in close proximity to three state forests. The community has a K-12 school as well as a clinic and hospital. The diverse local economy includes forest products, tourism, agriculture, government services and light manufacturing.
This position requires a B.S. degree in Forest Science/Management (or a closely related field of study) from an SAF accredited institution or current staus as an SAF Certified Forester.
