The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation, has seasonal positions (no benefits) available at Kodachrome Basin State Park near Cannonville, Utah. This appointment will last from approximately March 10 to October 31, 2017, with possibility of extension. Housing is provided.
Examples of Duties
Ranger Aides perform general maintenance and cleaning of park facilities and campsites, general building and grounds maintenance, and maintain park hiking and biking trails. They provide information to the public and answer questions, explain regulations concerning camping and day-use activities, and surrounding recreational opportunities on public lands. Ranger Aides greet park visitors helping them discover park resources and explaining how to enjoy them appropriately. They assist with park operation by collecting fees, reporting and accounting at the visitor center. They will sell retail, do stocking, and inventory items in the gift shop. Aides may develop and present a variety of interpretive programs including evening programs, guided hikes, and Jr. Ranger programs. They assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Other: Work is performed in a remote setting with limited resources and conveniences. Ranger aides have housing provided on site in a four-bedroom two floor house, dormitory-style setting. Housing is free. While off-duty you will have great opportunities to explore local points of interest some of which include Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Bryce Canyon, and Zion Canyon nearby.
Job Requirements and Skills
Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid Drivers license at time of employment. Applicant should have the ability to work independently in a tourism environment.
Preference may be given to applicants with cash handling, customer service experience, and education in a natural resource related field.
Applicants must be willing to work in an outdoor setting, work weekends and holidays, and varying shifts. Applicants must successfully pass a criminal history background check upon hire.
