Let’s face it, for most of us the job interview inspires feelings ranging from exhilaration to downright fear. In some respects, a job interview is like an audition in which you go in front of the judges, show them what you got, and hope for the “thumbs up” though most of us will end up getting a “thumbs down.”

However, like any audition, you can improve your chances by preparing yourself ahead-of-time. We’ve scoured the web for some valuable resources to help you prepare for the job interview. If you know of any other good resources, drop us a line.

Online Resources to Help You Prepare

The Basics
The Virginia Tech Career Services website provides a number of articles that get at the basics of interviewing: handshakes, what to wear, interview DOs and DON’Ts, etc. They also have an article on how to answer those tricky behavioral interview questions.

The 23 Most Common Interview Questions
There are numerous postings on the web about how to answer the most common interview questions. Most are from somewhat sketchy sites that provide dubious information. However, this article from the folks at the blog Wisebread is one of the best of the bunch.

50 Common Interview Questions
If 23 interview questions are not enough, this blog posting looks at another 50 (though there is some overlap with the article above). This blog posting is excerpted from the book: The Accelerated Job Search by Wayne D. Ford, Ph.D

How to Answer 10 Tough Interview Questions
Presented by Career Builder and CNN, this article will help you prep for those tough questions that might otherwise leave you flustered.

The 25 Most Difficult Questions You’ll Be Asked on a Job Interview
Another variation on the tough question theme, this article from Focus Magazine is particularly interesting. It was originally published in 1983 and it’s funny how so many of the questions have not changed much over the years.

Reading the Interviewer’s Mind
A fascinating read. This article was written for non-profit managers and recruiters on what they should be thinking about when interviewing a candidate. For the applicant, this article is like reading the opposing coach’s playbook before the big game.

9 Ways to Ruin a Job Interview
A great article from U.S. News and World report – if you can avoid these missteps, you’re already 50% of the way towards a job offer.
