American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities that harness the idealism and energy of a volunteer labor force to help restore America’s public lands.  ACE has a national reputation for providing exceptional training and support to enable crews to safely and economically implement technically complex and physically demanding conservation projects for the US Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, USFWS and numerous state and local land management partners. ACE’s California leadership team is seeking one (1) logistics coordinator to work under the direction of the California Sierra Region Director to assist in providing supplies and support for teams of young adult Corpsmembers in completion of environmental conservation and restoration projects, and enhance the future growth of operations in California.

The ACE Sierra Region is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Logistics Coordinator to ensure our crews are prepared for excellence on our projects. The Logistics Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the vehicles, tools and equipment required for our crews are in excellent condition as well as being responsible for food shopping for our crews and processing each crews’ post-project paperwork. A high level to detail as well as excellent organizational skills are mandatory for success in this position. This position is seasonal and runs from late April to early November.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Inventory and maintain vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment.
  • Procure quality, economic provisions, equipment, and supplies for Corps Crews.
  • Manage Provisions and Supplies Coordinator to ensure that: Quality and healthy food is provided for all Corps Crews; The warehouse remains clean, organized and well stocked.
  • Maintain and replenish first aid and personal protective equipment supply stocks.
  • Plan and manage rig-ups and de-rigs.
  • Manage organization and cleanliness of tool and equipment shop

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of mechanical operations of vehicles
  • Basic understanding of electrical wiring
  • Extensive background in vehicle use on various terrain and conditions
  • Skill in the use and repair of restoration hand and power tools, including: chainsaws, brush cutters, backpack sprayers, and other related restoration tools.
  • Considerable knowledge of safety procedures applied to field operations and equipment use.
  • Ability to adapt to surrounding work environment and conditions that can change frequently.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex mechanical issues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with ACE staff, corps members, partner agency staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes.

Typical Duties:

Management of Food Provisions:

  • Prepare recipes and ingredient lists for each ACE CA crew departing for project.
  • Purchase food within budget parameters for ACE CA crews and organize food in dry boxes and coolers.
  • Develop and manage safe, OSHA compatible storage protocols of non-perishable food and cookset items in a clean and organized manner.
  • Track food purchase costs, waste, and member satisfaction with meals, broken down by crew, duration, and crew size.
  • Oversee operation of sorting left over food as it returns from project, ensuring that non-perishables are restocked and coolers are clean, hygienic, and maintained.
  • Track local sales and stock pile sale items in bulk where applicable.
  • Regular communication with Region Director, Project Managers, and Crew Leaders to learn of weekly shopping needs for crews.

Vehicles, Trailers and Facilities Maintenance:

  • Oversee maintenance of vehicles. Help solicit information from crew leaders regarding any maintenance that may be needed or items that are missing
  • Assist Region Director with the purchase of new vehicles/trailers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local repair shops to ensure that work is accomplished with quality and cost effectiveness as priorities.
  • Assist Crew Leaders and Project Managers with vehicle maintenance and upkeep of vehicle logs.
  • Assist with keeping our staff housing, warehouse and office facilities clean and tidy.

Project Supplies and Logistics:

  • Oversee the operation and organization of our warehouse where all our project tools and equipment is stored. Keep facility clean and organized.
  • Keep inventory of tools and equipment
  • Oversee the acquisition of new tools and equipment.
  • Oversee tool maintenance and ensure crews have tools in excellent condition before taking them in the field
  • Assist Crew leaders and Project Managers in preparing crews for projects.
  • Maintain stocks of personal protective equipment, gloves, hardhats, glasses and earplugs
  • Organize a storage system for first aid supplies and then maintain a stock of all first aid items so that the Crew Leaders can refill their first aid kits.
  • Maintain stocks of cleaning supplies for vehicles
  • Develop and implement protocols to manage inventory and repair of ACE tents and uniforms.
  • Meet crews when they return from projects and ensure tools and equipment are returned to the appropriate places

Other Requirements:

  • If the candidate is currently an AmeriCorps Member, the candidate must successfully complete their AmeriCorps term before March 8, 2019
  • Must maintain a positive, constructive work environment conducive to team dynamics
  • Must maintain timely, effective communication with project partners, supervisors, and crew members
  • Must enforce the use of appropriate safety procedures in all tasks
  • Must maintain optimal physical health, including a drug-free lifestyle
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must secure Wilderness First Responder certification within 14 days of employment and maintain certification
  • Must submit to a criminal background check prior to hire. Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for appointment to this classification. This position is a covered position that may entail recurring access to vulnerable populations such as youth and the elderly. Selection for the position is contingent upon a review of all criminal history results.

Compensation:

Full-time, starting at $14-$17/hour DOE. Benefit eligible.

Hours: 40 hours/week within a flexible schedule.

Start Date: April 23, 2019   End Date: November 9, 2019
