Aquatic Invasive Species Technician

Responsibilities: Public outreach and education pertaining to stopping the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS), specifically quagga/zebra mussels, after completing training as a watercraft inspector the technician will conduct watercraft inspections and decontaminations for watercraft exiting Lake Powell. Technicians will work closely with other state and federal agency employees, assist, as needed, AIS biologist in other AIS projects (plankton sampling local water bodies for quagga/zebra mussel larvae, presence absence surveys, SCUBA surveys). Maintain open communication with supervisors.

Qualifications: Must be able to work a flexible schedule and work weekends/holidays and be detail oriented. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required. Experience with data collection is helpful. Must be 18 years of age or older and possess (& maintain) a valid driver’s license. Preference will be given to career minded applicants with or currently working towards completion of a degree in biological/environmental sciences, fisheries, social science, or similar field. Must be able to work in adverse conditions and maintain a positive attitude in unpleasant conditions. Must be willing to wear a work uniform. Smiling is important.
