Development & Communications Manager

GGAS is seeking a dynamic individual to manage all aspects of development and communications for our active grassroots conservation organization. Candidate must be capable of presenting cogent cases for support to diverse constituencies in this role. GGAS is looking for a versatile pro with outstanding written communications skills, superb attention to deadlines and details, as well as experience leveraging both traditional and social media channels effectively.  The right person must possess exemplary people skills for prospecting and cultivating our expanding community and for working collegially with others: Board, staff peers, &/or volunteers.

The right candidate will have demonstrated success in fulfilling duties like these:

DEVELOPMENT DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing fundraising campaigns for members and donors
  • Grant writing & reporting
  • Creating programs and initiatives for stewarding donors and cultivating new prospects
  • Producing fundraising initiatives and events

COMMUNICATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Curate & produce print and digital publications
  • Manage primary website and social media channels
  • Coordinate media relations
  • Recruiting and managing key volunteers
  • Manage core database and utilize digital email marketing tools
  • Manage mailings and content distribution
  • Understand how current news can impact birds/wildlife/habitat in our area and be able to formulate advocacy petitions, sample letters, etc.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

At least two years of relevant professional experience, and….

  • Outstanding written communication skills for diverse audiences and channels.
  • Ability to curate written material, photographic, and multi-media content on deadline.
  • Editorial finesse
  • Management of vendors (e.g. such as graphic design, printing, & mail houses)
  • Appreciation of and capacity to motivate skilled volunteers
  • MS Office suite
  • Competence using WordPress or a comparable content management solution.
  • Tech savy with relational database(s) and using email marketing systems such as MailChimp &/or Vertical Response.
  • Experience and knowledge growing Social Media visibility
  • People skills and ability to collaborate well with peers, allies, and volunteers.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of local birds, local wildlife/habitat conservation issues &/or citizen science will definitely be relevant for this job but not in lieu of the requirements.
