The Waukesha County Land Conservancy (WCLC) has spent the last 27 years working towards fulfilling its mission of protecting and caring for environmentally significant land and water in Waukesha County for future generations.

The Finance intern will assist staff in a variety of accounting and financial activities.  Interns should have a background in accounting, finance or business.  Some expectations of this position include strong communication, bookkeeping, and organizational skills. Interns will commit between 4 to 8 hours a week in the WCLC office in Waukesha, WI. The internship is unpaid and preferred for credit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in QuickBooks Online & Microsoft Access database to perform daily financial activities
  • Open and sort mail, entering deposit information into the database
  • Generate deposit reports on a regular basis
  • Assist in the tracking of expenses and completion of bill payments
  • Create monthly reconciliation reports and perform comparisons in QuickBooks
  • Support WCLC staff with:
    • Processing payroll & timesheets
    • Tax payments & form submissions
    • Grant tracking & reimbursements
    • Monthly treasurer’s report
    • Large-scale projects (i.e., in-lieu fee) budget tracking & reimbursements
  • Assist with special projects as needed depending on the needs of the organization

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PERSONAL TRAITS:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, business or similar area and completion of a basic accounting course
  • An understanding of accounting and finance methods
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
  • Self-starter; disciplined and motivated to further the mission of WCLC
  • Attention to detail, responsive and courteous communicator with strong interpersonal, verbal and writing skills
  • A team player; considerate and respectful of others
