Forester - Assistant Unit Manager

General Job Responsibilities: 

  • Forester is responsible for implementing on the ground forestry and timber harvest activities, Unit and road layouts, and other related management activities to meet harvest and long term productivity goals. 
  • Administers contracts for harvesting and logging operations including log sorting and log quality, road construction and maintenance, slash disposal and site preparation, etc. Assists with slash burning, tree planting, and reforestation activities as warranted. 
  • Assists Area Forester in budget and everyday operational planning and related land use.

Your Qualifications:

  • Requires degree in Resource Management; preferable 4 yr degree, with a major in a Forestry discipline 
  • At least 5 years of field experience in forestland management
  • Knowledge of Inland forest silvicultural practices, timber harvest and road construction, and has the ability to work safely.
  • Must be able to travel to multiple locations to carry out on-the-ground forestry activities.
  • Skills in oral and written communications, use of computer databases and spreadsheets, contractor supervision, and work effectively with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to execute multiple tasks under difficult weather conditions and on variable terrain.
