Shultz Forest Management and Consulting LLC is seeking applicants to fill a full time (40hrs/week minimum) Forester 1 position. The primary focus of this position is to aid in forest management of private and public lands by developing and implementing forest management plans, forest restoration through timber stand improvement and invasive plant control, and various other tasks related to forest management. 

Typical duties include herbicide application, timber inventories, tree regeneration and invasive plant surveys, selecting and marking timber for sale, GPS mapping, GIS, tree planting, forest management plan formulation, permit and erosion and sediment control plan preparation, and other duties as assigned. The position may include a small amount of overnight travel for which employee will be compensated.

Job Requirements:

This is a labor-intensive field position, and the successful applicant should expect to initially spend >90% of their time working outdoors, must be able to carry a 30 pound pack over various terrain, and work in all weather conditions. Encounters with poison ivy, stinging and biting insects, ticks, venomous snakes, and other hazardous conditions common to the forests of the area occur regularly. Applicant must be able to identify eastern U.S. tree species and preferably invasive plant species common to the area as well. A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Forestry or two years of college in a forestry program with two years of field experience or a Bachelor’s Degree in a Society of American Forester’s accredited Forestry program. Previous work experience in the forestry profession is preferred but not required depending on course work and level of degree. The position will require the successful applicant to acquire their PA commercial herbicide applicator’s license within one month of starting the position if they do not already possess one. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to work independently and in a team environment. Applicant must present themselves in a professional business-like manner when interacting with contractors, clients, and the public. Applicant must be a self-starter that can handle multiple projects running concurrently. Applicant must be a legal U.S. resident.  

Salary and benefits package are dependent upon education and experience. The successful applicant must have a valid driver’s license, and be able to provide their own transportation.
