Stimson's Inland Resources Department is seeking a Procurement Forester for its Priest River Operations. The Procurement Forester reports to the Priest River Procurement Manager and is responsible for maintaining an active log purchasing program.

Duties include: developing and maintaining working relationships with non-industrial sellers of logs; appraising and administering timber sales; monitoring the delivery of logs in relation to volume, species, sorts, and log quality; and working cooperatively with other company Procurement Foresters and Managers. Responsibility and Accountability: 

  • Maintains an active log purchase program for the Priest River operations. Includes developing and maintaining working relationships with non-industrial sellers of logs tributary to Stimson’s Inland Operations mills.
  • Appraises and administers timber sales as assigned by the Priest River Procurement Manager. Includes overseeing the harvest and delivery of timber from the sales to specified locations.
  • Monitors the delivery of logs in relation to volume, species, sorts, and log quality. Communicates situations not meeting specifications or targets to the appropriate log suppliers and implements corrective actions as needed.
  • Works cooperatively with other company Procurement Foresters and Managers in meeting log volume goals at all Company locations in the Inland Region.
  • Generates reports on delivery schedules, log quality, and open market log prices.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with company policies including Stimson’s “Forest Principles” and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program.

Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of basic harvest methods, logging costs, timber cruising, log scaling, forest regulations, and log values.
  • Skills in oral and written communication and in the use of computers.
  • 4-Year degree in Resource Management or related field with a major in one of the forestry disciplines.
  • 2-Years of field experience in forestland management with experience in log procurement and timber sale administration preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s license. 
  • Live or relocate to within a 20-minute commute of the Priest River Mill.
