Single position to analyze and interprets fisheries data to be used in the development of fisheries management plans, reports and presentations affecting marine fisheries management in Virginia; provides detailed written and verbal evaluations on issues before the commission. Interacts with scientific, regulatory, and fisheries industry groups. Will provide support to the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Fisheries Management Division in the regarding data and information applied to the development of evaluations for advising committees and the Commission in support of the regulatory process; coordinates and insurance timely completion of ASMFC mandated species compliance reports and assists the Deputy Chief management and oversight of the Atlantic Sturgeon Conservation plan.
Requires knowledge of the seafood harvesting practices and business, scientific knowledge of marine species and the marine environment. Requires well developed skills in speaking and writing; experience in computer based data management and statistical analysis. Prefer proficiency in r or SAS for data quality assurance and statistical processes is a plus. Requires studies in the area of marine science/fisheries; experience in analyzing data and technical writing, masters degree preferred. Must have general mobility to sit, stand, walk
