Salary: $4,174.00 - $5,615.00 Monthly

Required Qualifications:

  • An Associate's degree in forestry, natural resource science/management, or a closely related field;
    OR two years of forestry experience;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience working in managed forest land, laying out timber harvest units and buffers on protected resources (streams, wetlands, etc.), or successful completion of
    college forestry courses that provided exposure to timber harvest layout tasks.
  • Experience creating maps and spatial data using ArcGIS Pro, or successful completion of college course(s) that required creating maps and spatial data using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Experience with forest management theory and practices.
  • Experience providing technical information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.

The Forestry Riparian Easement Program (FREP) and Rivers and Habitat Open Space Program (RHOSP) in the Small Forest Landowner Office at DNR are seeking a Natural Resource Specialist 2 (NRS2) with a strong forestry background and desire to work closely with small forest landowners. You will coordinate with small forest landowners who have applied to our programs to set up and purchase conservation easements on their forest land. You will travel around the state and work on private forest land where recent timber harvests have been conducted. This position is a mix of office work and fieldwork. There are currently three other Conservation Easement Foresters on our team who you will have the opportunity to work with.
