American Forest Management, Inc. seeks a skilled District Manager for its Texarkana, TX District. Reporting to the Region Manager, this role involves overseeing timberland and NIPF business in Texas. The District Manager will play a crucial role in managing existing operations, driving new business in forest management and real estate services, and supervising a team of 3-5 employees.

District Manager – Texarkana, TX 
AFM’s Texarkana, TX District has an opening for a District Manager position reporting to the Region Manager.   The position is responsible for management of TIMO property as well as NIPF business in Texas.  It is also responsible for generating new business in forest management and real estate services and manages from 3-5 employees.  Activities include internal and client budget preparation, timber sales and marketing, harvesting, reforestation, road construction and maintenance, contract negotiation, hunting club management, environmental compliance and land sales.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provides leadership to a 3-5 person team to motivate and create alignment for a high performing operations group, attracting and retaining talent, and developing individuals and teams
  • Demonstrates a commitment to zero harm safety culture, stewardship, continuous improvement, and operational excellence and communicates these values clearly and often
  • Manages and enhances key client relationships through regular client contact and communication.  Ensures that client needs and requirements are being met throughout the District with consistence practices and quality service.
  • Prepares budgets, annual operating plans, forecasts, and reports for TIMO and NIPF clients and provide personal skills necessary to communicate effectively with TIMO and NIPF clients
  • Oversees the management of AFM employees and contractors in the implementation of forest operations and coordinates with the real estate services team.
  • Oversees the delivered log and stumpage program in the District Region
  • Manages contract negotiation for management operations Contract administration of technical experts
  • Participation in industry meetings and co-ops
  • Work within the objectives of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and Forest Stewardship Council
  • Developing forestry consulting projects and preparing proposals
  • Visibly demonstrates and communicates the AFM culture including a commitment to the company’s vision, mission, values, and policies
  • Provides management direction and oversight of AFM operations to implement the company strategic business plan including business development, client service, financial performance, staffing, and health & safety
  • Prepares District budget, monthly reports, invoices and projections 
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Region Manager

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong listening capabilities with the ability to translate communications into appropriate course of action
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under strict time constraints
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced work environment
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs such as MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to provide excellent client service with a focus to ensure that the customer perspective is a driving force behind business decisions and activities.
  • Strong proficiency in organization management, employee leadership, and relationship management
  • Strong ability to execute and drive business results.  Creates an environment where associates are held accountable for achieving goals and results
  • Proficient in all aspects of forest operations including health and safety, silviculture, timber marketing and sales administration, land management, and forest certification
  • Familiarity with timberland accounting, forest inventory, GIS, harvest scheduling, and land records
  • Knowledgeable in the development and administration of land management contracts and other service agreements

Work Environment
This position involves a dynamic blend of office, people management, and field work responsibilities. The District Manager will spend time in an office setting managing budgets, staff, and client relationships; in the field overseeing forestry operations; and periodically traveling to remote forest lands, sometimes accessed via unimproved roads. Outdoor field work may involve exposure to variable weather conditions, including summer heat and winter cold. Occasional travel and off-road driving are required.
