Position: The Longleaf Alliance (TLA) is seeking a Team Member for the Gulf Coastal Plain Ecosystem Partnership (GCPEP) Ecosystem Support Team (EST). The EST, consisting of five full-time (supervisor included) employees, was developed to support land management and restoration in collaboration with GCPEP partners, across and beyond the GCPEP landscape. Priority work by the EST centers on prescribed burning, invasive species control, mechanical treatments, ecological monitoring, rare species recovery, and fire training. The position is full-time and dependent upon successful program funding and grants.

Duties: The Technician will work in the field to further The Alliance’s and GCPEP’s strategic goals. The EST Technician assists with the implementation of ecosystem management plans and projects, which include prescribed burning, species and/or natural communities surveying and ecological monitoring, exotic species identification and control, threatened and endangered species management and monitoring, habitat restoration, data management, training and development, wildfire suppression, trail and/or equipment maintenance, and any other duties assigned. These duties will take place year-round(regardless of weather), under adverse conditions for extended periods, and occasionally solo. During certain times of the year, EST team members are expected to work weekend schedules to provide needed support to partners, (e.g. prescribed 
burning at Eglin Air Force Base).

Qualifications: Applicants must have at a minimum, a BA/BS/AS/Technical or Vocational degree in a science-related field and 1-year related experience in custodial and ecological land management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In addition, at a minimum, applicants must be qualified as NWCG FFT2, S-212 wildland chainsaw, can walk long distances through unforgiving terrain, bend, stoop, crawl, jump, climb over obstacles, and have a valid US driver’s license. Passing the Pack Test at the Arduous level is required (3 miles, 45 lbs., in less than 45 minutes).Toughness both mentally and physically is important along with the ability to overcome issues without drama. Applicants  must also possess a positive attitude and strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills. Preferred qualifications (not required) are FFT1 or (FFT1T) and S-212 Faller 2. Preferred experience includes that with brush cutters, swamping out cut material, carrying heavy loads short distances, control of invasive species with the use of mechanical treatment and herbicides, and use of field equipment such as tablets, GPS, spotting scopes, maps, and compasses. Also important is the ability to safely operate trucks on the highway and off-road settings, the backing of trailers, the use of winches, the safe operation of ATVs/UTVs, computer proficiency, and willingness to learn new skills such as RCW cavity maintenance and installation.

Compensation will range from $35,000 to $42,000, plus a benefits package, commensurate with experience.
