Project Tracking Technician at Point Blue Conservation Science/San Francisco Bay Joint Venture 

Location: Hybrid with weekly office days based out of the SFBJV office in Richmond, California.

Position Type: Seasonal, Part-Time, Non Exempt

Anticipated Duration: June 24 - August 30, 2024 (10 weeks)

Compensation and Benefits: $22.09-$25.08 per hour, depending on experience and internal equity. Benefits are limited to up to 40 hours of paid sick time, that accrues on a bi-weekly basis. 

About the San Francisco Bay Joint Venture:

The San Francisco Bay Joint Venture (SFBJV) is a regional partnership that works to conserve habitat for the benefit of birds, other wildlife, and people. SFBJV partners deliver a variety of wetland and other habitat protection, restoration, and enhancement projects throughout the nine Bay Area counties. The SFBJV is funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and grants from other partners and programs. All SFBJV staff operate as employees of Point Blue Conservation Science, who serves as the fiscal sponsor and as a member of the SFBJV Management Board.

Job Summary:

The Project Tracking Technician works closely with the SFBJV Conservation Coordinator and other SFBJV staff to update a regional project tracking database (Project Tracker/EcoAtlas) that tracks habitat protection, restoration, and enhancement projects throughout the nine Bay Area counties. This position will also perform project outreach to project managers, and accompany the Conservation Coordinator on habitat project site visits throughout the region.

Essential Functions:

Project Tracking and Database Management: 80%

  • Update project funding needs information in Project Tracker (PT) database with project information spanning from 2020-2024. 
  • Update and maintain completed and pending project information from SFBJV end of year reporting within PT and associated spreadsheets.
  • Assist with outreach to project managers to gather updated information on existing and pending projects within PT.
  • Help with outreach to contact project managers for newly adopted SFBJV projects to be entered into PT.
  • Provide assistance to project managers in how to navigate and update the PT database, as needed.
  • Execute a project checklist for quality assurance of project data within each project section in PT and document outstanding needs.

Project Site Visits: 10%

  • Attend habitat restoration project site visits throughout the Bay Area.

Regional Coordination & Other Duties as Assigned: 10%

  • Attend in person and virtual meetings with SFBJV staff regarding project information and work priorities.
  • Support SFBJV Conservation Committee planning and project adoption process.
  • Attend meetings and build working relationships with project partners including the San Francisco Estuary Institute, San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority, and San Francisco Estuary Partnership.
  • Update the restoration grant tracking spreadsheet that the SFBJV provides as a resource to the region.
  • Perform other duties, projects, and research as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills including experience using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, including spreadsheets, word processing, and email applications.
  • Detail oriented; listen carefully and execute detailed instructions.
  • Enthusiasm for interacting with and organizing spatial and tabular data.
  • Openness and ability to effectively communicate needs and questions to colleagues, team, and partners.
  • Ability to work in both a team setting and individually, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with the support of the supervisor, and meet deadlines.
  • Strengths in problem solving and troubleshooting challenges.
  • Enthusiasm for conservation and ecological restoration work; enthusiasm to learn about ecosystem processes, terminology, and techniques involved in habitat conservation and management.
  • Practice self-awareness and respect while engaging with people of diverse lived experiences.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to a minimum of 1-2 years of experience including, but not limited to: database management (spatial database experience a plus), geography, GIS, environmental science, natural resource management, habitat restoration, or related work. 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • This position will require long stretches of sitting and/or standing at a desk while using a computer.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, and walk, including at habitat restoration sites.

Position Type, Expected Hours of Work, and Travel:

  • This position will have a limited duration of 10 weeks at 20-25 hours/week, Monday – Friday
  • Occasional travel to project sites will be required if carpooling is not an option
