Trunk Program Coordinator - Job Description

As the Trunk Program Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and expanding our impactful trunk programs, ensuring their seamless operation and continuous growth. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including curriculum development, program creation, inventory control, order placement, delivery coordination, professional development training, budget tracking, and fostering meaningful relationships with new and existing partners. This dynamic position requires a versatile skill set to support the educational initiatives aimed at promoting conservation awareness.

Our existing initiatives encompass the distribution of 150+ educational trunks spanning across the state of Florida, reaching into the educational landscapes of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Our collaborative alliances extend their impact to every coastal school district in Florida, spanning from Citrus County on the West Coast to Flagler County on the East Coast. These strategic partnerships afford us the ability to transcend geographical constraints, empowering our outreach to regions beyond our immediate vicinity. Because of this, applicants should expect ample travel across the state and Southeast region of the U.S. and have the flexibility in their schedule to accommodate such trips.

This evolution underscores the imperative for a dedicated role to meticulously oversee the comprehensive management of our statewide and regional initiatives. This distinguished position carries the imperative of not only sustaining but also fostering the growth of our programs, thereby fortifying our commitment to environmental education and conservation on a broader scale.

Minimum Requirements (Please apply ONLY if you meet all these criteria):

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Conservation, Education, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in sea turtle studies.
  • Extensive experience in K-12 curriculum development.
  • Proven track record in coordinating and managing programs and events.
  • Residency in the Martin, St. Lucie, or Palm Beach area is essential, and candidates should possess the ability to transport program materials (70lbs) using personal vehicle.
  • Proficiency in working both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Access to a computer and the internet, as the Trunk Programs Coordinator will primarily operate from a remote home office.

Key Responsibilities

Trunk Order Fulfillment (30%):

  • Regularly update and maintain inventory, ensuring trunk readiness for educational deployment.
  • Manage the ordering process for all items, including special orders from suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Maintain a keen eye on costs, profits, and budgetary considerations.
  • Compile trunks based on orders received from both new and established partners.
  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure timely and accurate trunk component creation.
  • Oversee trunk delivery across the state/region, ensuring efficient logistics.
  • Address and resolve logistical challenges with partners to ensure seamless program execution.

Program Expansion (30%):

  • Collaborate with school districts to determine knowledge gaps and state standard needs
  • Create innovative, experiential, and on-brand new trunk programs that will be available to new and existing trunk partners.
  • Explore new avenues to promote trunk programs, engaging with educators and potential partners.
  • Collaborate with grant writers to secure funding for trunks in areas lacking school funding.

Network Development and Communication (30%):

  • Develop and maintain a network for partners to tap into, organizing quarterly workshops across the state and offering PDs as needed.
  • Harness this network to develop a repository of supplemental lessons provided by partners.
  • Provide regular updates throughout the year, including new curriculum releases, additions to the turtle repository, and other relevant information.
  • Maintain a statewide/regional partnership list and generate relevant reports annually.

Other (10%):

  • Track overall trunk program budget and report to the Director of Education.
  • Attend conferences to represent IRG and our education department.
  • Attend internal education meetings as well as monthly staff meetings, board meetings, etc. as needed.
  • Support departmental programs outside of the trunk programs with event attendance, program overview, etc.

Reports to: Director of Education

Compensation: $22/hr

Job Classification: Full-time, hourly, permanent

Benefits (90-day probationary period): After 90 days, the position will be eligible for paid holidays, accrued paid sick and vacation time, and a company partially matched SIMPLE IRA.
