Acadia Early-Career Gero Fellowship in Environmental Science Education
Schoodic Institute
Winter Harbor, Maine
Through the continued generous support of Catherine and James Gero, the National Park Service, Schoodic Institute, and the National Park Foundation, we are seeking applications for a 10-month early-career Environmental Science Education Fellowship. The Environmental Science Education Fellow will join a cohort with Science Communication and Science Research fellows; each working independently on discipline-specific initiatives and collaboratively on interdisciplinary work.
The Environmental Science Education Fellow will develop and teach lessons as a part of the Schoodic Education Adventure (SEA) overnight, experiential education program, helping to develop both the STEM and social and emotional learning portions of the curriculum for 5th through 8th grade students. The Education Fellow will lead in-person and virtual education and interpretation programs. The fellow will assist the Science Fellow with conducting field research and then incorporate this research into learning experiences. This fellow will also work closely with the Science Communication Fellow to share science stories of Acadia. There are additional opportunities for science communication and outreach, dependent on the fellow's interests. The Education Fellow is expected to participate in science communication assignments by contributing to social media posts, creating content for the Schoodic Institute and National Park Service website, and attending or presenting at Schoodic events such as lectures, symposia, and fundraising events.
