Required Duties and Responsibilities

American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a 501c3, a national non-profit conservation corps with its primary internship program office located in Salt Lake City, Utah.  We are expanding our National Park Service (NPS) Division of the Emerging Professionals Internship Corps (EPIC) program to include regional staff opportunities. This position would be based out of the Southeastern regional office, located in Fletcher, NC.

The EPIC program is seeking to bring a Part-Time Professional team member on-board who is passionate about public land management, and desires to work at the national level through ACE's 21stCentury Service Corps partnership with our Federal land management partners.  Our partnership responsibility is to provide a bridge between academia and careers for young professionals seeking positions as a public servant within the Department of Interior and Department of Agriculture. 

KnowledgeSkills and Abilities:

An individual who has worked with the National Park Service or is familiar and passionate about implementing its mission to balance public resource enjoyment, education, and inspiration with resource preservation would be ideal. 

Experience working with other agencies, in higher education, or for non-profits that have a conservation/resource mission will also be very useful, as ACE works with a variety of different partners, including the Departments of Interior & Agriculture.  The ideal candidate must have a solid understanding of the rigors of earning a BA/BS degree (o rhigher) in biological, cultural/historical, geoscience, or environmental science fields.

Essential Functions Specific to the Job

  • Facilitate Recruiting for ACE's National Park Service partners throughout the eastern US.
  • Editing and posting announcements, reviewing and interviewing candidates, conducting reference checks and referrals.
  • Directly plan and implement outreach for NPS recruitment efforts including forming and maintaining new partnerships with professional organizations and societies, tribes, schools, and local community groups to garner prospective
  • Expand program capacity and resources to recruit for workforce diversity as agency directives request.
  • Participate in related trainings, collect and organize data on recruitment statistics, and program activity and success.
  • Understand and appreciate the uniqueness of various federal agency cultures.

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extremely strong communication skills, and a deep interest in the welfare and development of ACE's emerging professional interns.
  • Commitment to ACE's mission to public service through youth development & volunteerism.
  • Highly organized with the ability to maintain organization of hundreds of intern applications and dozens of simultaneous projects, nationwide.
  • Strong computer management skills including experience with recruitment software and online personnel databases, iOS, Excel, MS Office, Adobe Suite software, or equivalents.
  • Must be flexible, with the ability to work well as part of a highly mobile, highly functional team.
  • Demonstrated strong time management skills and the ability and desire to perform multiple variable deadline-driven tasks.
  • Knowledge and professional acceptance of the varied missions of federal agencies.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record and willingness to travel to project sites around the country.
  • Evening, weekend and/or holiday work will be necessary as target college students/graduates are not always available during normal business
  • Desire to participate in field projects, when possible.
  • Ability to pass a federal criminal background check will be required. ACE reserves the right to require drug testing within our programs.

Job Benefits and Compensation:

  • Extremely flexible part-time work schedule. Workplanisdynamic and flexible. 20-30 hours anticipated per week
  • Work travel to NPS dutystationsthroughoutthestates and territories.
  • Casual, yet professional non-partisan work environment, with a shared outdoor & conservation ethic.
  • Compensation depending on experience. Hourly range of $13-$15/hour.  Level of Agency experience, especially NPS, will be a strong consideration.
