Overview

Health In Harmony (HIH) is seeking a collaborative and highly organized Advocacy Manager to play a pivotal role in advancing our global planetary health mission. This position will coordinate HIH’s fastly growing Advocacy Program, including through an essential programmatic support responsibility to on-going scaling efforts in Indonesia, The Manager will help connect program insights with advocacy and communications priorities, ensuring consistent and effective storytelling that reflects HIH’s model in action. The Manager will advance, under the co-CEO’s supervision, the Advocacy Program Strategy aligned with HIH’s strategic plan, in close collaboration with the Communications and Marketing team. This role is intensely transversal. Reporting to the Co-CEO of Advocacy, Talent, and Operations, and working closely with the Chief Programs Officer on the Indonesia MOH scale project and with the Senior Communications Director and the full Programs and Comms teams, the Advocacy Manager will work across HIH US to coordinate activities that strengthen collaboration, alignment, and learning across HIH’s global programs.

Health In Harmony is a nonprofit organization working to reverse the loss of tropical rainforests to help stop global heating and nature’s collapse. Health In Harmony works alongside Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and Afro-descendant Peoples to realize their community-designed and -led solutions.

Currently, HIH supports 235,000 community members in protecting nearly 4 million hectares of tropical rainforests in Panama, Madagascar, Brazil, DRC, and Indonesia. HIH is expanding globally to work alongside tropical rainforest communities and contribute to safeguarding half of the world’s remaining rainforests.

Health In Harmony is expanding its proven, community-driven rainforest protection and health systems model across Indonesia in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and with the pioneering planetary health organization, Alam Lestat Sehari, supporting districts to strengthen primary care through a last mile health program that incorporates progressive planetary health operations, and investing directly in community solutions for planetary health. This scale effort aligns national health priorities with climate and biodiversity goals, creating a pathway for resilient, people-centered health and environmental outcomes nationwide.

Description

The two main  responsibilities of this role are:

1. Leading the continued rollout and implementation of Strategic Orientation #2 of the new HIH Strategic Plan 2026-2028, which reads:

1A. Build Local-to-Global In-Country Campaigns: Support rainforest leaders to advocate directly inside national and multilateral processes (e.g., GCF, GEF, Pandemic Fund, Global Fund). Provide technical, logistical, and communications support so they can win the policy and funding changes their communities demand. Advocate for community-direct finance windows within GCF and GEF in Brazil, Indonesia, Madagascar, and the DRC—with simplified access and community oversight.

1B. Coordinate North–South Campaigns: Lead a five-year, multi-country push to increase the share of major multilateral funding (from GCF, GEF, N4H, TFFF) flowing to community-led mechanisms by ≥15%, tracked annually. Work to secure more voting seats for Indigenous and Afro-descendant Peoples on Page 10 multilateral boards and decision making bodies. Drive integration of the IDH framework across climate and health policy platforms. Accelerate ethical markets for carbon + biodiversity credits that deliver real benefits to frontline communities. Ensure HIH affiliates and community leaders maintain visible presence at global summits and multilateral board meetings—even when not formally invited.

1C. Advance U.S. and Global Rainforest Legislation: Push for U.S. passage of the FOREST Act by 2029/2030, cutting imports of deforestation-linked products and channeling finance to rainforest communities. Support adoption of EUDR-style regulations worldwide that link trade and climate integrity to community thriving and equitable benefit-sharing. Mobilize public and policymaker support in strategic U.S. districts and states to build momentum for this agenda.

2. serving as HIH U.S.’s liaison for Indonesia-based scale efforts, coordinating closely with ASRI’s DTPK Program Director and Scale Manager to ensure alignment between HIH global priorities and local implementation plans.

The ideal candidate will bring a track record of growing campaigns and movements, exceptional organization and communication skills, and a deep personal commitment to climate justice and health equity. This is a unique opportunity to help operationalize and scale HIH’s planetary health model in collaboration with dynamic global teams and partners.

Role & Responsibilities

Advocacy Strategy & Events (50%)

  • Lead delivery of portfolio 1A, 1B and 1C above.
  • Represent/ be a key spokesperson for Health In Harmony at international events
  • Research advocacy trends and assess success metrics to stay agile concerning   strategic KPIs
  • Support the admin and logistics of advocacy events (travel, lodging, visas, budget, itineraries, tickets/passes, participant prep), coordinating with team members across the organization such as Finance
  • Create an advocacy calendar of approved events and schedule planning timelines
  • Organize, take notes, and follow up action items from the monthly Advocacy Huddle

Indonesian Scale Program (25%) 

  • Serve as HIH U.S.’s liaison for Indonesia-based scale efforts, coordinating closely with ASRI’s DTPK Program Director and Scale Manager to ensure alignment between HIH global priorities and local implementation plans.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and meeting notes when needed. 

Communications & Content (25%)

This role will collaborate and work closely alongside the communications team to: 

  • Ideate and develop annual key messages, campaigns, advocacy targets and conference content strategies.
  • Execute advocacy content, campaigns and activations including being a key spokesperson and expert source.
  • Develop and deliver message-aligned content such as reels, posts, blogs, emails.
  • Liaise and trust-build with Indigenous, Afrodescendent and local communities to align content, campaigns and activations with their needs and priorities. 
  • Support HIH affiliate communications teams in Brazil, Madagascar, Indonesia, Panama and DRC; collaborate with these teams to produce media materials for global campaigns.

Qualifications

  • At least 3–5 years of experience in advocacy within a nonprofit or international development organization.
  • At least 2-3 years  of experience coordinating cross-cultural or multi-country program teams, ideally in a nonprofit or international development setting. Demonstrated ability to have a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and cultural competency in working with government officials and nonprofit organizations. Experience scaling programs is preferred.
  • Pre-existing relationships with Indonesian Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of Indonesian government context and policy.
  • Ability to demonstrate campaign-related work products and speak to campaign success and lessons learned.
  • Professional and warm communication skills with the ability to represent Health In Harmony’s mission and brand internally and externally.
  • Ability to speak, write and instruct in the voice of Health In Harmony, from social media to policy papers, as well as evolve this voice.
  • Awareness of current relevant conversations and trends, in order to support and evolve Health In Harmony’s public voice and message.
  • Strong design ethic and Canva skills.
  • Flexibility, willingness, and ability to travel in Indonesia  and internationally (Africa, South America, US, UK, EU) as needed.
