Position- Rescue Team Volunteer

Reports to- Animal Care Rescue Coordinator

Position Overview

Our rescue line is operational 24 hours per day, 365 days per year for callers with wildlife emergencies all over the state of Arizona. Rescue Team volunteers go into the field to assess, capture and transport injured, ill or orphaned animals to the SWCC clinic. Rescue Team Volunteers are not assigned a regular schedule and are on call, based on availability 24 hours per day. Rescue Team volunteers must use their own vehicle to transport animals and must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Rescue Team volunteers must be willing to purchase – Pre-Exposure Rabies vaccinations (series of 2), tetanus vaccinations, gas, basic rescue and safety equipment. You must attend 2 hour on site training and shadow experienced rescuers a minimum of 3 times before you can solo rescue.

Equipment Needed

  • Cell phone with internet capability.
  • Cell phone with email capability.
  • Downloaded web-based application Slack.
  • A vehicle large enough to hold a medium sized crate.
  • Rabies pole, net, sorting board, bite gloves, head lamp- purchased by the volunteer.
  • Medium to Large crate, towels- SWCC supplied.
  • Other optional equipment as outlined in manual- purchased by the volunteer.
  • Proper footwear and clothing.
