POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of Greenbelt Land Trust’s Leadership Team, the Associate Director plays a central role in leading a growing and successful land conservation organization in western Oregon.
The Associate Director will partner closely with the Executive Director and staff directors to develop and manage the growth of Greenbelt and its strategic response to an ever-increasing demand for the organization’s services. The Associate Director advises and supports the Trust’s robust Fundraising and Outreach programs and their teams, including designing, facilitating, managing and tracking functions related to fundraising and community engagement for the organization. This position also provides organization-wide leadership with a focus on strategic planning, cultivating staff engagement and organizational wellness. The Associate Director plays a critical role in advancing Greenbelt’s mission and accelerating land conservation efforts in the Willamette Valley.
The Associate Director will play an instrumental role in supporting Greenbelt’s growing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in its communications, fundraising, and staff development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration and Operations (40%)
- Develop and implement frameworks for tracking progress towards Greenbelt’s strategic plans
- Provide guidance and feedback on annual workplan creation for each of Greenbelt’s program areas, utilizing S.M.A.R.T. goals, clear objectives, and a method for results-tracking
- Ensure Greenbelt’s operating procedures are streamlined and high-functioning
- Oversee organizational assessments and planning efforts in coordination with consultants and any ad-hoc staff Committees as needed – these may be periodic updates of existing organizational plans, or new planning efforts (examples include: Performance Evaluation Strategy, Compensation Analysis, Business Plan, Organizational Management Platform)
- Oversee consultants and any ad-hoc staff committees formed to implement organization-wide system upgrades and changes (examples include: CRM/Accounting Software migration, integration of organizational management platform)
- Provide oversight and guidance in the process of GLT’s annual renewals of organizational insurance and IT contracts
- With the Executive Director, in the next three years develop and successfully launch a NextGen Advisory Circle, a council for rising leaders in the Willamette Valley
- As needed, act as primary point of contact for board, staff, and community in absence of Executive Director
Development and Outreach (40%)
- Provide leadership and oversight of GLT’s long-range and annual fundraising and outreach plans with clear deliverables and milestones for success
- Supervise Outreach, Membership, and Trails and Urban Spaces staff (currently 3 direct reports, total team of 5) by providing support, tracking workflows, facilitating professional development, establishing clear program direction, setting objectives, and monitoring performance to ensure that fundraising and outreach strategies are aligned and implemented successfully
- With the Executive Director, play a key role in connecting Greenbelt’s fundraising program to the Board of Directors, and directly oversee the organization’s Development and Engagement Committee to create a robust and resilient relationship management system and cultivate Board and Committee engagement to achieve our fundraising goals
- Provide vision and leadership for organizational outreach and communications, working with staff, consultants, and volunteers to establish clear goals and implement strategies across all media and direct contacts, including event and volunteer opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Staff Engagement (20%)
- Play a key role on Greenbelt’s Leadership Team to establish and implement organizational strategic, conservation, and fundraising goals and objectives.
- Work with the Leadership Team to cultivate and project a unified leadership voice to all staff and promote an organizational culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion
- With Leadership Team, design and implement twice per year staff retreats and an annual board retreat
- Oversee annual Staff Satisfaction Survey and DEI & Culture Assessment
- Establish a coaching program for all staff supervisors within Greenbelt to nurture a strong culture of mentorship grounded in inclusive leadership practices, including building strong relationships, active listening, clear and transparent communication, consistent and timely feedback, and clear expectations
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Passion for the mission of Greenbelt Land Trust and a commitment to working with the community to advance the Land Trust’s mission
- A minimum of 5 years’ of increasingly responsible management experience, successfully supervising and motivating staff, managing the creation and oversight of department budgets and workplans, implementing multiple projects with varying deadlines and resources, and assessing results
- Broad skillset in fundraising that could include diverse experience in such areas as long-range development planning, major gift fundraising, capital campaign implementation, and effective management strategies
- Background in effective community engagement, building relationships and establishing partnerships with diverse groups
- Experience using complex relational databases (Salesforce, Raisers Edge, etc.)
- Experience with communications strategies, tactics, and tools
- Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to build trusting relationships through thoughtful listening, a positive attitude, and honesty
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position will work from Greenbelt Land Trust’s office in Corvallis, Oregon
- This work is primarily office-based, but we have meetings and events that often require being on the land. There may be situations that require being outdoors in all weather conditions and traversing uneven terrain
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
- This position will need to manage transportation to and from meetings with their own vehicle (mileage to work-related meetings using personal vehicle is reimbursable)
- Some weekend and evening work will be required
- Work is often fast-paced and requires attention to multiple detailed projects with deadlines
COMPENSATION
Salary range is $85,000-$100,000
