Job Announcement: Bilingual Education Coordinator
Marys River Watershed Council (MRWC) is pleased to announce that we are hiring a Bilingual Education Coordinator to support and expand our hands-on, bilingual environmental education programming for children and youth in the Marys River watershed. This position has been re-scoped to focus on planning and delivering classroom and field-based learning experiences, primarily for elementary students, and working with our high school Youth Watershed Council program and bilingual community members. This position is funded through an Oregon Department of Forestry grant that extends through 2028, with an opportunity to seek other funding to extend the position further.
We are looking for someone who loves working with children, is fluent in Spanish and English, and is excited to help students learn through meaningful, place-based outdoor experiences. This role combines environmental education, coordination with teachers and partners, and thoughtful logistical planning to make field experiences possible.

Position Details
Reports to MRWC Education Program Director (EPD)
Status: At-will, part-time, non-exempt hourly position.
FTE: Flexible, approximately 0.5 to 1.0 FTE, depending on the availability and interests of the successful candidate.
Compensation: $23/hour. Successful employee will be eligible for performance-based salary adjustments.

Location: This position is based out of the Marys River Watershed Council office in Corvallis, Oregon. The position requires the successful applicant to be locally-based. Occasional remote work possible with supervisor approval once established.
Primary Responsibilities
Bilingual Environmental Education
- Plan and deliver bilingual Spanish and English classroom lessons and outdoor field experiences for elementary students.
- Coordinate closely with teachers, school staff, and community partners to plan logistics for field trips and on-site learning.
- Adapt and deliver existing MRWC curriculum in culturally relevant and age-appropriate ways.
- Translate and adapt educational materials for bilingual delivery, particularly related to forest ecology, native species, and invasive species such as Emerald Ash Borer.
- Support programming with MRWC’s Youth Watershed Council, including mentoring high school leaders and assisting with youth-led outreach activities.
Coordination and Community Partnerships
- Communicate with schools, partner organizations, and land managers to schedule and support education activities.
- Assist with planning and coordination for select bilingual outreach events and family engagement activities.
- Represent MRWC at community, school, or partner events.
Program Support and Resource Development
- Assist with implementation of grant-funded education and outreach programs.
- Support resource development and grant writing related to education programs.
- Help track activities and outcomes and assist with compiling information for grant reports.

- Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English is required.
- Passion for working with children and supporting youth learning, especially in outdoor or experiential settings. Strong interest in environmental education, nature-based learning, and community engagement.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental studies, science, communications, or a related field preferred but not required. Relevant experience, lived experience, and demonstrated skills are equally valued.
- Experience or demonstrated ability to plan activities, coordinate logistics, and communicate with multiple partners.
- Comfort working outdoors in variable weather and natural settings.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Basic proficiency with common office and communication tools such as email, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom.
- Reliability, organization, and attention to detail.
Optional Professional Development and Free Housing Opportunity
MRWC partners closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Willamette Valley National Wildlife Refuge Complex. As an optional opportunity, the successful candidate may choose to work alongside the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff at the Refuge, supporting refuge-related education and/or stewardship work.
In exchange, the employee would be eligible for free housing and utilities at a residence located at William L. Finley National Wildlife Refuge. This option offers a unique professional development and learning opportunity for someone interested in environmental education, public lands, and conservation careers. Participation is not required for this position and is separate from MRWC employment responsibilities.
Additional Position Details
- Duties include a mix of office-based and outdoor work.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, walk over uneven terrain, and work outdoors in variable weather. Occasional evening or weekend activities are required.
- Finalists for this position will be subject to a computerized criminal history, driving history and abuse background check. Adverse background information will be reviewed and could result in withdrawal of a conditional job offer or termination of employment.Successful applicant must also pass a background check with Corvallis and Philomath School Districts in order to work in the schools.
- Finalists for the position will be asked to provide 3 professional references, including at least one reference from a previous supervisor. Adverse information from any reference will be reviewed and could result in withdrawal of a conditional job offer or termination of employment.
- Finalists for the position must have and maintain a valid driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and reliable personal transportation with proof of car insurance. Work-related mileage will be reimbursed at the current State of Oregon rate.
- MRWC does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, the successful applicant will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
