Job Overview
Russian Riverkeeper is seeking a compassionate and motivated individual who enjoys working outdoors to implement our trash removal program and lead Volunteer Clean Ups on weekends. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, sense of humor, is conscientious, ethical, self-motivated and a quick learner, who provides follow-through in all areas of responsibility and enjoys team collaboration. This is an entry level parttime position 20-32 hrs a week. Reports to Clean Team Director
Responsibilities and Duties
- Implement trash removal on the Russian River and tributary creeks
- Lead volunteer Clean Up events to respond to trash issues and to build stewardship in the Russian River Watershed
- Train and manage community volunteers to conduct events in a safe manner to avoid injuries
- Conduct outreach and build trust with members of the homeless community living along waterways to gain participation in our Clean Camp program weekly trash service
- Distribute cleanup supplies such as trash bags and gloves
- Treat all members of the homeless community with kindness, respect and dignity.
- Maintain confidentiality, trust and appropriate boundaries
Required Qualifications
- Ability to lead a group of volunteers in clean-up activities
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or with groups
- Ability to work outdoors on steep terrain while carrying loads up to 40 pounds
- Valid CA driver’s license and reliable vehicle that can haul trash
- This position requires a fair degree of travel each week to work sites across the watershed and a good driving record
- Ability to independently carry out duties with efficiency and follow instructions
- Flexibility and ease working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Must be able to work Saturdays
- This job’s specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
Physical Requirements
This position requires work outdoors in a variety of weather condition with some office time each week. It requires physical work including working on rough terrain along the river and the ability to lift 40 pounds or more. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit approximately 5% of the time, walk 50% of the time, stand 25% of the time, and bend or squat 25% of the time.
