Salary Range: $55,000 per year Salary Exempt (Full time, 40 hours per week) 

Reports to: Programs Director

Position: The Climate Justice and Emergency Resilience Specialist is responsible for leading culturally responsive outreach and education efforts that increase disaster preparedness and climate resilience and justice among Latinx communities in Clatsop, Tillamook, and Pacific Counties. This role centers equity, belonging, and transformative change, and will work closely with community members, local organizations, and Consejo Hispano’s team to ensure that Spanish-speaking residents receive accessible, relevant, and empowering information about natural hazards and emergency response.

This position requires independence, creativity, and a deep understanding of Latinx lived experiences. The Specialist will also help recruit and support “Embajadores de Emergencia” (Emergency Ambassadors), community leaders who will help disseminate preparedness information and foster resilience across the region.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The role of the Climate Justice and Emergency Resilience Specialist will include the following. These roles are not distinct and will overlap as appropriate:

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Latinx residents, local partners, and trusted messengers
  • Organize and promote culturally relevant workshops, events, and outreach activities
  • Distribute Spanish-language preparedness materials and supplies across target counties
  • Recruit, train, and support Embajadores de Emergencia to amplify community-led messaging
  • Represent Consejo Hispano professionally in community meetings, presentations, and trainings
  • Ensure outreach efforts are inclusive, trauma-informed, and rooted in cultural humility

Program Support & Coordination

  • Collaborate with the team members to align outreach with training goals
  • Track participation, feedback, and impact of outreach activities
  • Support the development of marketing and communication materials
  • Assist with grant reporting and documentation of outreach efforts
  • Maintain flexibility to respond to emergent community needs and opportunities

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Program Director in planning and overseeing the work. Engage regularly with participants, volunteers, staff, and parents to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  • Evaluate programs periodically, offering insights on improvements, needs, and emerging trends.
  • Demonstrate professional leadership that fosters respect, teamwork, and accountability among staff and volunteers.
  • Work in a fast-paced and occasionally high-pressure environment, maintaining flexibility and adaptability.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Programs Director.
  • May oversee special programs and participate in the implementation of other activities as necessary. 

Qualifications:

  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a must, your Spanish doesn’t have to be perfect but you need to be able to communicate well with Spanish speakers
  • 4 or more years’ experience working with one or more of the following:
    • Immigrants or refugees
    • Spanish speakers
    • BIPOC Students
    • Community programs, community engagement or community organizing
    • Nonprofit sector
  • An understanding of the needs, challenges, and barriers faced by Latinx and/or immigrant families as they relate to accessing and engaging with institutional systems
  • Conveys warmth, care and proper guidance in ongoing interactions with participants.
  • Good communication skills (reading/writing/speaking) in both English and Spanish, and interpersonal skills
  • An Associate or Bachelor’s degree, equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and conflict management abilities
  • Good judgment and decision-making ability
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to keep track of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Team-player willing to pitch in where necessary
  • Comfort with social media use, web research, and proficient computer skills specifically with Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • A solid commitment to helping Spanish speakers 
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Maturity, initiative, resourcefulness, and an ability to inspire others, creatively problem-solve, and work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Valid driver’s license and up to date auto insurance for travel between work sites

This position is a full-time position, with hours occasionally varying. Some weekends and travel required. Must possess current and valid US Work Authorization and be eligible to work for any US employer.

Benefits: The position includes paid time off every year that includes 13 paid holidays, PTO accrued at 8 hours per month for 0-2 years of employment, 12 hours per month for 3-4 years of employment, 13.33 hours for 5 to 9 years of employment, and 16.66 hours for 10+ years of employment and sick time accrual of 8 hours per month - plus a 1 week fully paid leave at the end of August and 2 week fully paid leave the last two weeks of the calendar year. It also includes comprehensive medical insurance paid at 90% coverage for the employee, their spouse and their children; fully paid vision and dental insurance, retirement match account at 3%, as well as life insurance including EAP with counseling sessions, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. 

Essential Physical Requirements:

Typical Working Conditions: Office and school classroom type environment, includes some evening and weekend hours based on program and event schedule.

Equipment Used: Computer, telephone, printer

Essential Physical Tasks: This job requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling under 10 lbs and occasionally up to 40 lbs. Because of the use of the computer, this job frequently uses the keyboard which requires repetitive motion and dexterity. In the course of the job, there will be frequent walking, sometimes over uneven and slippery surfaces, and sitting for periods of time. There is also occasional reaching.
