Why does the job exist?: This position supports the Office of the Secretary (OOTS) and the Executive Team, reports to the Director of the Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSI), and leads the Constituent Services and Legislative Tracking Office areas. This position requires timely and effective responses to constituent inquiries and complaints from the Governor's Office, agency website, and bureaus across the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED). Developing responses, tracking, reporting and providing support for public inquiries received by the agency. The position also tracks, coordinates and reports on the agency's performance reporting, and assisting in developing and compiling presentations for internal and external Interim Committee and Legislative meetings. Coordinating the OSI Legislative Tracking Office and staff volunteers during the legislative session.
How does it get done?: Timely and effective responses to constituent inquiries, correspondence from the Governor's Office, agency website as well as phone calls, emails, documenting interactions and reporting to NMED management and the Governor's Office
- Compile, maintain, analyze and report agency performance in monthly, quarterly and annual reports
- Assist and support the OOTS Legislative Tracking Office during the legislative Session. Guide, track, monitor and respond to bills affecting the agency and advise the OSI Legislative Liaison Manager on progress
- Assist with additional projects within OSI as assigned
Who are the customers?: New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment
- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
- Internal staffIdeal CandidateThe ideal candidate should have experience in the following:
- Solid legislative background; ideally with legislative bill drafting, bill analysis, legislative liaison, constituent services
- Knowledge base of New Mexico and federal environmental regulations is preferred
- Working with a diverse group of individuals, and knowledge of project management, policy development and process improvement
- Develop, maintain and monitor large databases
- Working with large data sets
Minimum Qualification: Associate's Degree and three (3) years of experience in program administration or project management in areas related to the purpose of the position. Any combination of education and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required.Supplemental Information
