For five decades, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) has played a pivotal role in shaping the fields of environmental law, policy, and management, both domestically and internationally.
ELI is hiring a Communications Associate to support ELI’s Communications department in upholding a dynamic and strategic communications approach to engage our core audiences and maximize the effect of our work. The Communications department conveys ELI’s deep-rooted reputation for nonpartisan integrity and its focus on multi-perspective governance through creative and deliberate communication practices.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Associate VP of Communications in organization-wide marketing and communications efforts, including working closely with other VPs in support of their work.
- Manage social media accounts, including drafting and scheduling posts, graphics, videos, and other media.
- Create social media and information graphics as needed in Canva.
- Support outreach to targeted groups to drive engagement with ELI, e.g., increasing event participation, increasing donations, etc.
- Coordinate with ELI research project leads to promote their outputs via social media, sponsored ads, or other media strategies.
- Aid the Podcast Manager in drafting social media for upcoming podcast episodes.
- Partner with the AVP of Communications to strengthen the organization's ability to connect past research and work to current events (connecting the dots).
- Assist with the development and production of drop materials, such as annual reports, brochures, and similar.
- Oversee ELI's blog, including scheduling, outreach to authors, editing, and posting.
- Manage, schedule, and send mass marketing communications via CRM (Salesforce).
- Data entry and management in CRM (Salesforce) as required and necessary.
- Project management on special assignments as necessary and in close coordination with AVP of Communications.
- Light administrative support of AVP of Communications, including expense management.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent skills in: Written and verbal interpersonal communications, organization, attention to detail, time management, web research, and problem solving.
- Proficiency with standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- General knowledge of: email marketing, marketing strategies, social media best practices, communications, and public relations.
- Superb attention to detail and ability to consistently adhere to deadlines.
- Accurate and reliable data entry skills.
- Ability to be on-site in our DC office 2 days a week. We are open to the possibility of remote work for the right candidate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (0-3 years).
- Experience in marketing, communications, or public relations preferred.
- Basic training in CRMs and software such as Salesforce, Canva, Photoshop or InDesign a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to: Manage multiple tasks at once, work in a fast-paced environment, collaborate, and respond to problems quickly and efficiently.
- Broad knowledge of or interest in environmental, energy, or natural resource law and policy or a related field.
- Willingness and ability to learn new skills.
- Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
COMPENSATION
The annual salary range for this position is $55,000 - $63,000 and is commensurate with experience. ELI’s total compensation includes excellent benefits including:
