Ceiba’s Mission: Connecting tropical nature and sustainable livelihoods through habitat conservation and environmental education

Job Description: The role of Ceiba’s Communications Coordinator is to effectively communicate the positive impacts of Ceiba’s work to our stakeholders, including beneficiaries, partners, donors, funders, students, alumni, and the general public.  We seek a person with background and skills in marketing, writing, social media, web design, and/or graphic arts to assist in creating content and engaging our U.S. and Ecuadorian audiences. The individual will participate in brainstorming media content; producing and editing content (particularly for social media posts, infographics, reels, stories, flyers, and videos) that promote our work; using data and analytics to inform communication strategies; organizing a communications calendar for these publications and posting to our social media accordingly; planning joint posts with our Ecuadorian Communications Coordinator through biweekly meetings (in Spanish); translating materials and social media posts into Spanish; producing and distributing our quarterly email newsletters; updating our website; creating and distributing marketing materials for study abroad and EduTour programs; organizing and implementing our Student Ambassador Scholarship for study abroad programs; promoting our Seeds of Sustainability grants; assisting with fundraising events and campaigns; and engaging with Ceiba in meetings, study abroad fairs, and other events. The Communications Coordinator will be supervised by and work closely with the Operations and Engagement Manager.

Are you a good fit? We are seeking someone proficient in Spanish who shares our heartfelt commitment to environmental conservation and wants to learn how a small nonprofit works. The candidate will apply their communications background to help a small environmental organization grow and succeed. The ideal candidate will have a degree and/or demonstrated background in environmental communications, marketing, graphic design, or journalism, and be creative, self-motivated, professional, detail-oriented, and organized. Strong background in written and graphic communication skills are a must for this position; familiarity with the country of Ecuador and with the work of Ceiba Foundation is a plus. Applicants must have a demonstrated history of managing time efficiently and working independently and reliably with intermittent supervision.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of productivity when working from home
  • Eagerness and ability to quickly learn the communication needs of an environmental non-profit organization and be flexible and adaptive to evolving needs.
  • Openness to receiving feedback and making revisions on media and written deliverables.
