Communications Manager

Position Summary: Conserve Southwest Utah (CSU) is seeking a creative, strategic Communications Manager to lead the organization’s storytelling, public visibility, and community engagement. The Communications Manager will shape CSU’s public voice, develop long-term outreach strategies, manage digital and print communications, cultivate media relationships, and ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging across all programs. This is a collaborative role that works closely with CSU’s executive director and program managers to elevate our work, engage supporters, and build a growing base of advocates, volunteers, and donors.
● Location: St. George, Utah—one of the West's most desirable places to live due to its spectacular landscapes, public land access, and over 300 days of sunshine!
● Start date: February 7th, 2025 (potential to start earlier).
● Salary: $60,000

● Work Hours: Typically Monday–Friday, with some weekends and holidays required for events. We support flexible working hours when your job duties allow it, and we actively work to create a supportive, inclusive, trusting work environment.
● Reports to: Executive Director.
Organizational Background: Conserve Southwest Utah (CSU) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit grassroots organization founded in 2006 to protect southwest Utah’s natural and cultural resources. We advocate for smart growth principles that emphasize living within our means, and we understand that the livability of our community is interconnected with the health of local public lands and water. We use education, stewardship, and effective grassroots advocacy to safeguard irreplaceable desert habitats, Indigenous resources, regional biodiversity, and our local watershed. Responsibilities:
Communications Strategy & Brand
● Develop and lead CSU’s communications strategy aligned with the Strategic Plan and mission.
● Establish cohesive messaging and storytelling frameworks across all programs and platforms.
● Steward CSU’s brand, voice, and public presence to ensure accuracy, consistency, and trust.
● Manage the communications calendar across email, social, press, web, and mailings.
Digital Communications & Storytelling
● Manage CSU’s digital communications, including email newsletters, action alerts, blogs, and volunteer outreach.
● Oversee CSU’s website (Wix), including content updates, event pages, and basic maintenance.
● Lead CSU’s social media presence and content creation using platform-appropriate strategy and analytics.
● Capture and curate photography and video for campaigns, events, and storytelling.
Media Relations & Public Voice
● Lead media engagement, collaborating with the CSU staff on press releases, media inquiries, interviews, quotes, Op-Eds, and LTEs.
● Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, influencers, and partner communications staff.
● Serve as a public-facing representative of CSU when appropriate.
Campaigns, Outreach & Publications
● Develop and execute outreach campaigns to grow supporters, donors, volunteers, and digital advocates.
● Collaborate with leadership and program staff on messaging, talking points, and materials for key issues.
● Write, design, and manage forward-facing materials, including mail pieces, reports, toolkits, and campaign collateral.
● Support community events and stewardship activities with promotional and post-event communications.

● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, environmental studies, or a related field.
● Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats (email, digital, print, press).
● Experience managing organizational social media, websites, and digital communication tools.
● Demonstrated ability to craft compelling campaigns, mobilize supporters, and translate complex issues into accessible messaging.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work collaboratively across teams and with diverse community partners.
● Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
● Experience with media relations, including press releases, interviews, and Op-eds/LTEs.
● Photography and videography experience preferred but not required.
