The Bainbridge Island Land Trust seeks a new member of our community engagement and conservation teams to support our mission to conserve and steward the diverse natural environments of Bainbridge Island for the benefit of all.
For over three decades, the Bainbridge Island Land Trust has played a vital role in conserving areas of ecological significance. The Land Trust’s work to protect and restore Bainbridge lands and waters is done to honor past generations, preserve a legacy for future generations, and build a network of protected lands resilient to a changing climate. The Community Education Coordinator position supports the Bainbridge Island Land Trust’s broad conservation and restoration strategies, including land protection, stewardship, and other restoration initiatives through project management, community engagement, and education. The Land Trust’s community engagement and education goals are to work with landowners, partners, and volunteers to improve and manage habitat conditions for wildlife species, increase landowner and public participation and knowledge in the stewardship of lands, watersheds, and streams, and implement and monitor key actions to achieve these goals.
The Community Education Coordinator will help ensure strategic conservation goals are met by:
- Collaborating with staff, Board, committees, and community partners in developing educational and volunteer initiatives.
- Assist in managing specific conservation and restoration projects such as culvert removal efforts that include community education opportunities.
- Helping to manage the internship program to support the work of other departments.
- Preparing and delivering presentations to educate Land Trust supporters and the broader community on actions they can take to help protect and restore the various Island habitat types.
- Developing and delivering environmental education curriculum relevant to the community engagement and conservation goals of the organization.
- Collaborating with educational institutions, organizations, and community partners to provide environmental education opportunities on Land Trust-owned lands, conservation easements, and private and public lands.
- Assisting the Development and Communications team in the preparation, creation, or review of interpretive signage, web content, and other educational and collateral materials.

RESPONSIBILITY & SCOPE
- Preparation and delivery of educational opportunities and presentations to community and school groups.
- Develop and coordinate volunteer opportunities.
- Lead community and school groups in land stewardship activities on Land Trustowned properties.
- Lead or participate in events such as tours and community education opportunities.
- Provide event support as needed.
- Other duties as may be required to meet team and organizational goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of relevant work experience, with an emphasis on environmental education, environmental restoration, and community outreach.
- Experience in outdoor or environmental education.
- Experience in project management.
- Ability to work with diverse audiences and age groups.
- Experience in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
- Ability to walk over and navigate rough terrain and work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.
- A valid driver’s license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree with an academic background in environmental science, education, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Pacific Northwest flora and fauna.
- Familiarity with conservation land management techniques and best practices.
SALARY & BENEFITS
This is an hourly position with an expected 25-30 hours per week. The compensation range is $25-28/hour. Occasional weekend or evening work will occur. Benefits may include medical, dental, and vision coverage. Additional benefits are offered with tenure, e.g., SIMPLE IRA 3% employee match.
