Summary: The Community Organizing Manager is funded to help facilitate and carry out the new pilot program called the Changemakers Cohort. The cohort itself will be composed of six (6) young (18-30), BIPOC participants who are invested in advocating for a cultural and socioecological change in fire management. The Manager is assigned to help facilitate and carry out the needs and objectives for the cohort program. This includes, but not limited to, coordinating with participants and other FireGen team members and partners, planning both virtual and in-person meetings, travel arrangements, some co-development of our programming curriculum, and any other related duties to ensure the pilot program runs smoothly. The program itself is already in pre-planning phases, but do expect the new Manager to bring creative and energetic ideas to the planning and execution of the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate, with the help of FireGen staff, the Changemakers Cohort pilot program.
  • Co-develop and execute the ~7-week program of six (6) participants.
  • Connect the pilot cohort to elders and mentors from relevant backgrounds in the fire management and governance community.
  • Complete any grant reporting or FireGen deadlines pertaining to the Changemakers
  • Cohort pilot program (e.g. Annual reports, donor/grant reports, etc).
  • Ensure all participants and contributors are equally included, engaged and benefitting from the program, and help problem-solve for any issues that may arise.
  • Be available to plan and attend all necessary virtual and in-person trainings, meetings and convenings related to the Cohort and any other FireGen events.
  • Be willing to increase their own awareness for both cultural and social issues related to frontline, marginalized or most-impacted communities.
  • Any other FireGen tasks, responsibilities assigned necessary for the success of both the organization and program.

FireGeneration Collaborative is a program of Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics and Ecology (FUSEE).

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Displays the ability to establish and maintain friendly, professional and harmonious relationships with the FireGen team, partners and those who participate in our Changemakers Cohort.
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan and schedule relevant meetings and in-person convenings, and coordinate with project participants and contributors.
  • Have great communication skills and problem solving capabilities with other team members and project participants.
  • Shows a balance of hard work and dedication to their job while instilling a workplace of amicable energy and excitement with the work and colleagues.
  • Experience in working with people of color and marginalized communities.

 

Requirements:

  • Must have a background in beneficial fire (cultural or prescribed fire), wildland fire or a robust understanding of current and historical fire practices and issues.
  • Have some previous experience in facilitating and leading a group through a program, camp, internship or any other levels of group organizing.
  • Be able to start April 1st, 2026.
  • Have a great, energetic and open mentality.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of experience in the related work of fire, organizing, and/or mentorship positions; OR a combination of work experience and education will be considered too.
  • Must have adequate access to a computer, video or camera access, and internet.
  • Have access and are willing to learn to use virtual platforms including Google, Airtable, Zoom and other relevant apps.
  • Preferred to have a Driver’s license.
