This position provides a variety of technical and administrative assistance to support all aspects of the programs and activities of the Mercer County Soil Conservation District.

Under the direction of the Manager of the Mercer County Soil Conservaton District, the District Conservation Program Lead assists landowners and agricultural producers to adopt and implement agricultural and urban soil and water conservation practices and increases public awareness of local, state and federal conservation programs. This is a full-time, benefited position. Wage offered will be dependent on training and experience.

DUTIES:

  • Prepares records and reports covering work accomplished.
  • Performs technical work, according to the NRCS Technical Guide and within ecological Job Approval Authority, without detailed instructions, after adequate training.
  • Supervise seasonal employees, interns, and volunteers when given project responsibility by the District Manager.
  • Assist with grant reporting.
  • Develops conservation plans and project agreements and provides the necessary guidance and follow-up to ensure plan implementation and all the required reporting.
  • Promotes the conservation philosophy of the District, as outlined in the Strategic Plan.
  • Perform the duties associated with the District tree planting program.
  • Support the District Grass Drill rental program, fleet, and equipment maintenance.
  • Perform other equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Expected to work cooperatively as a team player with conservation partners, USDA NRCS & FSA staff, Mercer County Water Resource Board, and others.
  • Specific duties of this position may change as the needs of the District change.
  • Promote the District through outreach efforts, including but not limited to school and public events.
  • Work towards and maintain Conservation Planner Certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Bachelor's degree with a major emphasis in biological or environmental science, soil science, geology, or equivalent field preferred; OR a two-year college degree in biological or environmental science or equivalent field plus applicable experience in related field OR equivalent work experience in related field/agency.

Must possess a Current and Valid North Dakota Driver’s license at time of hire.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US. Mercer County SCD does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1B visas.

This position may require regular, protracted periods of considerable exertion. Incumbent may be required to work in conditions including prolonged standing, walking over uneven, rocky or swampy ground, recurrent bending, reaching, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, and other strenuous activities requiring good agility and dexterity.
Monday-Friday workweek.
