Courtesy Boat Inspector
Raymond Waterways
Raymond, Maine
Raymond Waterways, a non-profit organization devoted to lake health in Raymond, Maine, is hiring several Courtesy Boat Inspectors (CBIs) for the summer of 2026.
CBIs staff 4 boat launches in town and carefully and faithfully inspect boats–from kayaks and canoes to large pontoon boats– for invasive weeds and species. They fill out paper and/or electronic forms to submit to RW and the state DEP. CBIs work shifts from 5-12 hours (with breaks) on Thursdays-Sundays, preferably from Memorial Day-Labor Day.
The calendar is set in May for the season.
Training is mandatory and provided free, and consists of at least one on-line workshop before the season begins.
The CBIs represent the face of RW and the DEP, and are on the frontlines of preserving lake health.
Therefore, CBIs must be:
- Great at working with all members of the public, with a positive, outgoing attitude
- Able to learn how to identify possible invasive species and fill out paper and/or electronic reports
- Available: Thurs-Sun, for 5-12 hour shifts, preferably from Memorial through Labor Days
- Reliable with reliable transportation
- Dedicated to working consistently and thoroughly to help preserve lake health
- Abie to stand or sit for long periods and move sandwich boards once or twice each shift
