The Potomac Riverkeeper Network (PRKN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers and their tributaries. We champion clean water, advocate for environmental justice, and engage the community through education, activism, and stewardship. With a growing budget of $2.4 million and a fervent commitment to safeguarding this vital waterway, PRKN works alongside communities to stop pollution, promote sustainable practices, advocate for policy changes, and enforce clean water laws to ensure that the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers are fishable, swimmable, and drinkable.
The Development Manager plays a hands-on role in executing PRKN’s fundraising plan, with a specific focus on grant writing, membership growth, and corporate partnerships. This role also supports the department’s appeals, events, donor stewardship, and development communications. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented fundraising professional who thrives in a mission-driven environment and enjoys both writing and donor engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Grants
- Manage and maintain current grants portfolio pipeline, including drafting grant proposals, reports, budgets, and stewardship materials in a timely fashion to a high standard of quality of standard
- Maintain grants calendar, tracking systems, and documentation
- Support new grant prospecting and research initiatives
Membership & Annual Giving
- Execute membership retention and growth efforts
- Support direct mail and digital appeal strategy and delivery
- Identify potential major donor prospects from membership lists
Corporate Giving/Partnerships
- Support outreach and stewardship efforts to corporate prospects, connecting businesses with the sponsorship and fee-for-service opportunities they are most interested in
Events
- Support gala production, sponsors, ticketing, auction, and logistics
- Help execute smaller fundraising events and membership gatherings
Communications & Donor Stewardship
- Partner with the Digital Marketing & Communications Manager on donor-focused messaging
- Update website development pages & content to drive donations
- Review fundraising emails, appeals, and social media messaging
Other Revenue Streams
- Support corporate giving strategy, in-kind donations, and fee-for-service opportunities
Qualifications
- 3–8 years of nonprofit fundraising experience (grants + donor engagement strongly preferred)
- Outstanding writing, organization, and follow-through
- Comfortable managing multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Experience with donor databases and CRM systems (Salesforce)
- Collaborative, proactive, mission-driven mindset
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000, depending on experience
