The California Energy Commission (CEC) is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Director of the Siting, Transmission and Environmental Protection (STEP) Division. This executive-level position plays a central role in shaping California’s clean energy future while safeguarding the state’s environmental resources.
As a member of the Executive Director’s Management Team, the STEP Director will oversee programs related to energy facility siting and compliance, transmission corridor planning, and environmental protection. This role is critical to ensuring California can meet its energy goals responsibly, efficiently, and equitably.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of STEP programs and resources, ensuring high-quality, timely deliverables.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and Commissioners to develop and implement state energy policy.
- Advise the Governor’s Office, Legislature, and other agencies on complex and sensitive issues related to energy infrastructure and environmental protection.
- Supervise and mentor senior staff, fostering a workplace rooted in fairness, inclusion, and professional excellence.
- Represent the CEC in high-level meetings, public forums, and regulatory proceedings.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Experienced leader with a strong background in public policy, environmental regulation, energy infrastructure, or related fields.
- Proven ability to manage complex programs and multidisciplinary teams.
- Skilled communicator, capable of advising top-level government stakeholders and representing the Commission in public settings.
- Passionate about California’s energy transition and committed to public service.
