American Forest Management, Inc. seeks a skilled District Manager for its Chester District. Reporting to the Region Manager, this role involves overseeing 175,000 acres of TIMO and NIPF business in South Carolina. The District Manager will play a crucial role in managing existing operations, driving new business in forest management and real estate services, and supervising a team of 4 employees.

District Manager – Chester, SC
AFM’s Chester District has an opening for a District Manager position reporting to the Region Manager. The position is responsible for management of 175,000 acres comprised of TIMO property as well as NIPF ownership in central and upstate South Carolina. It is also responsible for generating new business in forest management and real estate services. In this role a successful candidate will lead a team of 4 employees while mentoring, developing and guiding them to achieve their career goals. Activities include internal and client budget preparation, timber sales and marketing, harvesting, reforestation, road construction and maintenance, contract negotiation, certification compliance, hunting club management, environmental compliance and land sales support.
Qualifications:
- BS in Forestry; Master’s in Forestry, or related field preferred.
- Minimum preferred 10 years of experience in forest operations including silviculture, harvesting, timber marketing and forest inventory.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to work within the performance standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Products; working knowledge of GIS & GPS applications.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize in a fast-paced work environment, work independently, and make client-based business decisions.
- Strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work within and lead a team of foresters.
- Must have personal skills necessary to communicate with clients, contractors, and various stakeholders.
- SC Registered Forester or ability to obtain registration in the first two years of employment.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
Work Environment
Office and remote field environment. At times works alone in remote forest lands accessed by private, unimproved roads where off-road driving skills are required. Involves working long periods of time outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions including summer heat and extreme cold.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare budgets, annual operating plans, forecasts, and reports for TIMO and NIPF clients and provides personal skills necessary to communicate effectively with TIMO and NIPF clients.
- Manage and enhance key client relationships through regular client contact and communication. Ensures that client needs and requirements are met throughout the district with consistent practices and quality service.
- Provides leadership to a 4-person team to motivate and create alignment for a high performing operations group, attracting and retaining talent, and developing individuals and teams.
- Oversees management of AFM employees and contractors in the implementation of forest operations and coordinates with the real estate services team.
- Manage contract negotiation for management operations, timber and land sales to assure compliance with government regulations and client objectives.
- Visibly demonstrates and communicates the AFM culture including a commitment to the company’s vision, mission, values, and policies.
- Demonstrates a commitment to zero harm safety culture, stewardship, continuous improvement, and operational excellence and communicates these values clearly and often
- All aspects of fieldwork, office work, analysis, and reporting.
- Utilize Geographic Information system (GIS) for effective property management.
- Operate within the Sustainable Forestry Initiative’s objectives.
- Prepares District budget, monthly reports, invoices and projections.
- Fulfill other assignments from the Region Manager.
