The Missoula County Ecology and Extension Department is seeking an EDUCATION ASSISTANT/YOUTH CREW LEADER
to join their team. This position assists the Weed Education Coordinator from April to October in the preparation,
scheduling, and presentation of classroom and outdoor field trips; and coordinates and leads a group of 4 high school students in natural resource restoration projects with participating land managing agencies for the Youth in Restoration program through the Missoula County Department of Ecology.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver K–12 educational programming, including classroom presentations and field trips.
- Schedule programs, prepare materials and supplies, and communicate with educators to ensure successful events.
- Lead students on outdoor field trips, volunteer workdays, and interpretive nature walks.
- Facilitate discussions on valley bioregional flora and fauna, non-native species invasions, and the ecological and economic impacts of weed management.
- Educate participants on integrated invasive species management techniques.
- Supervise and mentor high school youth crew members (June–August) during daily restoration projects, volunteer events, and interpretive activities.
- Participate in hands-on restoration efforts throughout western Montana, including mechanical and biological noxious weed control, native seeding and planting, and native seed and cone collection.
- Support additional natural resource initiatives such as fence removal, trail maintenance, construction of vegetation enclosures, and brush barriers.
- Assist with field data collection using GPS units.
- Deliver noxious weed education programs to community groups and other public audiences.
