Temporary Seasonal Position; October 7, 2024 - May 29, 2025
Position Title: Seasonal Educator
Supervisor: Hatchery and Education Program Manager
Pay Rate: $21/hour. Holiday pay and prorated sick leave included
Position Summary: Delivery of education and engagement programming for Sound Salmon Solutions, including some outreach events
Hours: Up to 24 hours per week. Generally Monday-Thursday, between 7AM – 5PM with occasional weekend and after hours work (such as science nights at schools, etc.). Hours & days are flexible, and may be subject to change depending upon funding.
Job Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- COVID-19 vaccination (or exempt status)
- Submit to and pass a background check for working with children, schools and interns
Qualifications:
- 18 years or older
- Valid driver's license
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and an approachable personality with the ability to receive feedback and have a growth mindset
- Ability to navigate difficult classroom situations, including students and teachers
- Ability to maintain accurate records with an attention to details
- Proficient in the Google suite as well as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and competent with social media
- Strong interest in the recovery of salmon and their habitat
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal oversight as well as part of a team
- Punctual and prepared for daily tasks
- Able to work outside for long periods in a variety of weather conditions (reasonable disability accommodations will be provided if needed)
- Ability to drive up to 1 and a half hours one way to a school, up to 3 hours per day (company vehicle or mileage reimbursement provided)
Responsibilities:
Education
- Deliver salmon and water quality education lessons to K-12 students in the classroom and in the field, including both team-teaching and solo teaching
- Assist in lesson planning, preparation, and clean up
- Document education lesson data for tracking & reporting purposes
- Provide in office support to Education Program as needed
- Report any incidents, supply shortages, or program needs ASAP to the supervisor(s)
- Assist with program development
Engagement
- Staff engagement tables at outreach events and interact with the public
- Assist in preparing for outreach events and managing engagement materials
- Assist with reporting on outreach events
- Possibly assist with occasional volunteer events
Miscellaneous
- Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor(s)
- Some aquarium and husbandry work will also be included (training is provided)
