Environment Education Manager

Greenacres is looking for a highly motivated, experienced leader who will delight in managing a team of seasoned supervising educators who are experts in Environmental Education (EE). Our programs focus on children and life-long learners through various platforms, including school groups, after-school programs, community groups, summer camps, and the general public.
This individual should have a passion for conservation and is eager to grow their staff, five education sites and campuses, as well as growing programs to benefit community learners. The EE Manager will be responsible for the delivery of programs to over 20,000 community learners, accounting for over 60% of our entire education department’s annual impact.
The Environment Education (EE) Manager is a senior Education Leadership Team (ELT) member. The EE Manager will ensure that team members are experts in their field and collaborate effectively to maintain a culture of transparency, honesty, and integrity across all aspects of Greenacres. Overall, they will be expected to grow new programs, our community impact, and each site supervisor while achieving QQQ.
Responsibilities:
Education Programs
- Develop and implement annual operating plans for current and future program sites while maintaining QQQ
- Gain understanding of Environment Education (EE) curriculum and have the enthusiasm, willingness and knowledge to teach EE programming across sites
- Direct development of environment educational programs aligned with standards and other initiatives
- Work with researchers to develop methodologies to quantify our programmatic impact
- Continue ongoing program evaluations and implement changes when necessary
- Monitor and promote collaboration and scheduling of programs across environment sites, optimizing each based-on plans and site assets
- Develop innovative ideas in the environmental education space
- Collaborate with education managers across divisions (operations, arts, equine and agriculture) to coordinate, develop, plan and implement new programs and optimize operations
Staff Management
- Conduct regular individual and team meetings
- Hire, supervise, train, evaluate, develop, and lead our seasoned Environment team
- May be required to teach in times of need
- Complete administration duties as needed
- Assist with scheduling across environment sites
Budget
- Set mission-based budgetary and operational goals and ensure each site reaches or exceeds goals
- Prepare annual budget for each program site for approval and incorporate in the total budget
- Review actual vs. budget on a monthly basis and report variances
- Oversee and approve equipment purchases and review the budget with each program site
Additional Professional Activities
- Collaborate and coordinate with appropriate regional and national organizations to provide volunteer and staff development opportunities
- Lead our Green Team committee at Greenacres Foundation
- Attend and present at appropriate local, regional and national association meetings
- Publish in the appropriate journals as the opportunity arises
- Expand, train and mentor staff to achieve all of the above
- Create presentations internally and externally
- Other Duties as Assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant academic discipline
- Minimum of 5 years managerial experience required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in education or a similar field is preferred
- A passion for natural history and nature
- Strong management/supervisory skills are required to guide team and meet departmental and organizational goals
- Proven ability to initiate, organize and implement plans
- Demonstrate a history of proven, positive customer service experience
- High attention to detail, able to think systematically and demonstrate excellent judgment
- Ability to meet required deadlines, work calmly and professionally under pressure
- Ability to provide balance, logic and reason when working through difficult situations/challenges
- Excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills
- Commitment to working within a functional team and collaborative culture
- Ability to travel across all Greenacres locations (currently Indian Hill, OH, Miami Township Clermont County, OH, Lewis Township, OH and Oldenburg, IN)
- Ability to successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test and fingerprint FBI background screen
- Ability to work with both internal and external partners with the same or very different backgrounds to ensure that all who visit Greenacres get the highest quality experience that addresses their needs.
