NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst to support the activities of the Long Island Sound (LIS) Partnership Bioextraction Coordinator in forwarding the Nutrient Bioextraction Initiative. The goal is to improve the quality of marine waters in New York and Connecticut by removing excess nitrogen through the cultivation and harvest of seaweed and shellfish. The Initiative will provide information to help decision makers with the guidelines needed to facilitate seaweed and shellfish farming and harvest operations in their coastal waters. 

Position Summary
This collaborative role will assist with program coordination, administration, and communications for the Nutrient Bioextraction Initiative, and will partner with a variety of individuals from federal, state, and local levels to meet the goals of the program. This role will:

  • Assist with creating project specific outreach and communications resources, including program newsletters, project fact sheets, and resource guides. Develop and maintain Bioextraction Initiative website content on the LIS Partnership and NYSEC webpages.
  • Assist supervisor with preparing requests for proposals (RFPs), grant proposals, writing and reviewing project workplans, project management, and reviewing contractor quarterly reports. 
  • Review and develop comprehensive summaries of primary scientific literature, reports, newsletters, and specifications related to mariculture and bioextraction for inclusion into program development, pilot projects, grant reports, presentations, and communication resources.
  • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships and communicate constructively with Federal, State and local government agencies, engineering firms, various non-governmental groups, aquaculture industry, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences, with related professional or technical experience.
  • Have excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft products and GIS.
  • Have experience with processing and maintaining data. 
  • Knowledge of local coastal environments and aquaculture is a plus. 

Logistics
This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in Kings Park, NY. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting. Position will require once a month travel to Albany and other occasional travel, for which a valid driver’s license and private means of transportation is required. After six months, this position may be eligible for a hybrid telecommuting work schedule, subject to approval and program needs.

Pay & Benefits
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $55,000 to $75,000. NEIWPCC offers an outstanding comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees:
