The Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group (SFEG) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and engaging our community in habitat restoration and watershed stewardship to recover wild salmonid populations. SFEG completes habitat restoration and monitoring projects with the help of volunteers and interns as well as three education programs for students within Skagit County. 

Environmental Education interns assist staff and volunteers with classroom and field instruction for these school programs. We provide opportunities and activities so students learn about salmon biology, riparian ecosystems, and watershed health. These include watershed tours, field days, and stream restoration service-learning projects throughout the school year. Students are typically between 4th and 8th grade. 

Internship length can arranged to be quarter-long, semester-long, or year-long depending on applicants needs. This is a volunteer position however mileage reimbursement from our Mount Vernon office may be considered if a personal vehicle is used.

Applicants much have general knowledge (or interest) in salmon biology and habitat, some experience or comfort working with children, have a reliable vehicle and clean driving record. 

Applicants must be organized and motivated, comfortable working with others as a team, willing and able to work outdoors in adverse weather, and able to pass a background check. 

Applicants with studying or with degrees in environmental education, education, and environmental science preferred.
