Description:
Environmental Educators deliver educational programs at Pringle Nature Center (PNC) and other Kenosha County area sites, as well as staff the nature center, maintain live animals and exhibits, and assist with other nature center events and projects under the supervision of the Environmental Education Director. This is a part-time, paid position scheduled on an as-needed basis for programming and other duties. Hours average 7 most weeks but will vary depending on season. The majority of hours will be spent conducting and preparing for educational programs such as field trips, homeschool programs, and family programs. Environmental Educators are expected to be consistently available to lead programs during weekday (Tuesday-Friday) mornings with occasional afternoon/evening and Saturday hours.
Duties:
- conduct programs (school field trips, scouts/youth programs, summer camps, family programs, public events, etc.) (40%)
- prepare, clean, and organize materials/amenities used during programs (20%)
- staff the center during other hours, caring for live animals and maintaining displays (20%)
- write, revise, or coordinate programs (10%)
- attend all program-related trainings and staff meetings (10%)

Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
- 18+ years of age
- consistent availability during: weekday mornings (Tues-Fri), one Saturday each month, and occasional afternoons and evenings for other programs and duties
- has reliable transportation to and from Bristol Woods County Park and other program sites in the Kenosha County area
- working knowledge of local ecology and willingness to learn more
- 1 or more years’ experience working with children
- speaks effectively before groups and interacts positively with both children and adults
- communicates clearly and promptly with PNC staff
- adapts to changing conditions with a positive attitude
- conveys enthusiasm for nature and program topics
- follows PNC policies regarding appropriate conduct and dress
- passes a criminal background check
- walks, hikes, and stands for extended periods of time in varying weather conditions and outdoor terrain
- can lift objects up to 20 pounds in weight
- comfortable with handling and caring for live animals or willingness to learn
Additional, preferred qualifications:
- CPR/First Aid certified
- experience with interpretation or teaching in an informal setting
- 1 or more years’ experience/education in environmental science, biology, education, interpretation, or a related field
- expertise/interest in topics including regional flora, fauna, geology, astronomy, etc.
