Job Duties

Coordinates interdivisional review of permit applications and environmental assessments to determine anticipated impacts upon wildlife resources; reviews state and federal legislation and regulations to assess impacts upon wildlife resources; drafts agency positions regarding these projects and issues; develops wildlife impact assessment programs, projects, and budgets; and represents DWR/WIES/ESS at intra- and interagency meetings. Provides technical consultation on wildlife-related environmental issues to federal, state, and local governments; private landowners and consultants; conservation organizations; and other constituents

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of wildlife, fisheries, or ecosystem management theory and practices, including species life histories, ecology, and habitat requirements; knowledge of wildlife research techniques including data collection, analysis, and report preparation; and knowledge of construction techniques and applicable state and federal regulations. Ability to apply this knowledge to project assessment, and to analyze and interpret complex environmental data. Ability to supervise others and to work independently, and to show initiative in enhancing the effectiveness of the position; to work effectively with the department's professional and support staff, staff of other agencies, and with individuals in the public and private sectors; and ability to write, type, organize, and present information with an effective command of the English language. Working knowledge of Windows, Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, G-Suite, and GIS software.

Additional Considerations

Advanced knowledge of wetland/stream ecology, standardized habitat evaluation protocols, mitigation, and restoration is highly desirable. Professional experience in wildlife research and management, habitat delineation and evaluation, and review of environmental permits and assessments is highly desirable, as is certification by TWS, AFS, or SWS.
