Position Summary: The Executive Director of the Keystone Trails Association is the key management leader of the organization.  The executive director is responsible for overseeing administration, staff supervision, programs, projects, and implementation of the strategic plan.  Primary duties include fundraising, membership and partnership development, marketing, local trail club support, advocacy and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors through KTA’s President.

Leadership and Management

  • Provide direct oversight of finance, administration, fundraising, volunteer support, field programs and projects.
  • Lead implementation of KTA’s strategic plan and ensure alignment of all programs with the organization’s goals.
  • Support a strong Board of Directors and assist KTA’s President with preparation and implementation of Board meetings.
  • Inform, advise, and engage the Board.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget with staff and KTA’s Treasurer, including preparation and filing requisite tax documents.

Supervision of Staff

  • Under the supervision and support of the Board of Directors, identify needs for staff support and hire qualified candidates.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, and supervision of the staff. 

Fundraising

  • Secure adequate funding for KTA’s core programs and functions.
  • Aggressively seek, submit timely applications, and administer grants from a broad spectrum of public and private funders.
  • Cultivate supporters and major donors.
  • Secure event sponsorships.
  • Prepare and circulate quarterly appeal letters.

Trail Advocacy

  • Monitor proposed legislation that could affect trails and nature based outdoor recreation pursuits. Draft and submit KTA’s position on said legislation.
  • Maintain relationships with policy makers and news outlets across the Commonwealth, prepare press releases, and be available for media events.
  • Write and post Action Alerts to inform KTA’s members of events and proposals that impact trails.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships and partnerships with key constituencies, including without limitation PA DCNR, other departments of state government and other federal, state and local governmental entities, and other organizations, coalitions, etc. with similar goals and objectives.

Local Trail Club Support

  • Build strong relationships with trail club leaders to ensure that they see the value of KTA as their statewide trails advocate.
  • Assist trail clubs with increasing membership and relevancy.
