Heart of Oregon Corps is hiring for a qualified Field & Safety Manager (FSM) with motivation, professionalism, talent, and passion for empowering and inspiring positive change in the lives of young people. While the FSM must balance a variety of duties, a primary function of this role will be interfacing with project partners to coordinate field logistics and mitigate risks, ensuring Crew Leaders and youth Corpsmembers are prepared to meet project goals effectively and safely. Additionally, serving as the organization’s Safety Committee Chair, this position plays a vital role in organization-wide safety policy management and implementation.

POSITION AND ORGANIZATION INFO: 

This dynamic position bids, plans, schedules, and tracks data for projects with our partners and customers. The FSM is responsible for making sure Crew Leaders and youth head into the field with the scope, tools, maps, and skills training they need to complete the project goals effectively and safely. In doing so, the FSM will regularly provide logistics for daily projects and when crews camp overnight, as well as emergency response when needed. Furthermore, the FSM provides direct supervision to 4-5 Crew Leaders and ensures their success through collaborative training efforts with HOC’s Conservation Trainer.  

As this is a youth-centered workforce program, the FSM will regularly assist with youth orientation, case management, discipline and general coaching. This position will also support the Program Director and Conservation Trainer with the development and implementation of new program tracks and in-house career development opportunities. These tracks must adequately meet the needs of our project partners while creating an effective workforce development environment for Opportunity Youth.   

This position also manages the programs’ fleet of vehicles, trailers, tools, and facilities. Therefore, the FSM must have a strong aptitude for balancing priorities, schedules, and the ability to delegate tasks as appropriate. 

This position is primarily based out of our Bend, Oregon office with weekly scheduled time also spent at our satellite office in Prineville, Oregon. Please note that the organization is moving to its new Redmond Central Campus in June of 2026, with the Bend and Sisters locations closing at that time. The position works in the field acquiring project bids, visiting, training, or filling in for Crew Leaders as needed for vacations or emergencies. The position is supervised by the Program Director and is a part of a larger program team of 7 staff. Heart of Oregon Corps is a large regional non-profit that operates 6 youth training programs. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of demonstrated experience relevant to field project coordination, natural resources skills, logistics, supervision, safety, and equipment. A Bachelor’s Degree (or directly related equivalent experience) is required. A combination of the following other qualifications is preferred, but not all required: Strong understanding of tool and vehicle operation and maintenance, S212 Sawyer certification (B Faller or above highly preferred), Wilderness First Aid certification, one or more years of experience with natural resources conservation-related projects, and/or conservation-corps Crew Leader experience. A good sense of fun and humor is also welcomed and desired! A strong commitment to respecting the ideas and intelligence of young people and the ability to relate to and support a multicultural group of people is critical. A successful candidate will have flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills to balance a multi-dimensional role in a rapidly changing environment.  

Physical Requirements: primarily light duty work in an office setting. Driving. Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, standing, stooping and occasionally carrying/lifting of items over 50 pounds. Work in outdoor, all weather environments required occasionally.  

BENEFITS

The salary starting rate is $60,395. Future wage adjustments and performance increases are considered annually at the start of the fiscal year (October 1st).    

This is a full-time, year-round, salaried staff position, with great benefits! Benefits include employee health, dental and vision benefits paid 100% by the employer, a $600/year phone stipend, 12 paid holidays, and 80 hours paid vacation and 40 hours paid sick time/year, with leave benefits increasing after one year.
